Tamarisi
Tamarisi is a '' daba'' (Urban-type settlement) in southern Georgia with almost 700 residents (2021 , located in Bolnisi Municipality (Kvemo Kartli region). Tamarisi is located 7 kilometers west of the city of Marneuli, on the Georgian S6 highway ( E117). Five kilometers to the south is the larger village of Tamarisi, which belongs to the municipality of Marneuli, with which it should not be confused. Background Tamarisi is located between the villages of Parizi and Tsurtavi and was established in 1982 with the establishment of a large poultry factory, on the south side of the S6 highway, to house its labourforce. It immediately acquired the status of an urban-type settlement ('' daba'') when it was founded. A decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the Georgian SSR decided to do so on March 30, 1982, which also assigned the name Tamarisi. Bolnisi ( ka, ბოლნისის მუნიციპალიტეტი, ''Bolnisis munitsip’alit’et’i'') is a municipality in Georgia's southern region of Kvemo Kartli, covering an area of . As of 2021 it had a population of 56,036 people. The city of Bolnisi is its administrative centre. Geographical location Bolnisi Municipality is situated in the south of the country and shares a border with Armenia. The highest point is Mt Loki at above sea level. Kolagiri Fortress
The Kolagiri fortress (), is a building of the feudal age (late 18th century), near the '' daba'' (borough) Tamarisi, Bolnisi Municipality (Kvemo Kartli region). History The fortress was built between 1788-1798 by order of the wife of King Heraclius II, Darejan of the House of Dadiani. In 1801 Darejan wrote to herself: "Build a great fortress and the castle wall". It was the last of its kind in the Kingdom of Kartli-Kakheti. The Kolagiri fortress served as an outpost for Tbilisi and was a hiding place for the surrounding population during Ottoman or Persian raids. At the beginning of the 19th century, the fortress lost its defensive value and was used for some time as a prison. The plan of the fort is square with an area of 2000 m². It was built of stone and the bricks were used to decorate the towers and entrances. The 6 m high wall is thicker on the first floor. Kvemo Kartli ( ka, ქვემო ქართლი, az, Aşağı Kartli) or "Lower Kartli", is a historic province and current administrative region (mkhare) in southeastern Georgia.
