Tallman, Oregon
Tallman is a ghost town in Linn County, in the U.S. state of Oregon. It is located northwest of Lebanon. History A post office was established at Tallman in 1886, and remained in operation until 1923. The community's name honored James Tallman, a pioneer settler. Tallman was a station on the Red Electric interurban railroad. A previous Oregonian Railway station at this location was named Lebanon Junction. Tallman was near the junction of the Southern Pacific's East Side and Lebanon Branches. Linn County is one of the 36 counties in the U.S. state of Oregon. As of the 2020 census, the population was 128,610. The county seat is Albany. The county is named in honor of Lewis F. Linn, a U.S. Senator from Missouri who advocated the American settlement of the Oregon Country. The Southern Pacific Red Electric Lines, also known simply as the Red Electric, was a network of interurban passenger train services operated by the Southern Pacific Transportation Company, Southern Pacific Railroad in the Willamette Valley of the U.S. state of Oregon from 1914 to 1929. The Oregonian Railway was a narrow gauge railroad in the Willamette Valley in the U.S. state of Oregon. History A group of Scot capitalists formed the Oregonian Railway Company, Limited after purchasing the bankrupt Dayton, Sheridan and Grande Ronde Railroad in 1879. The first changes made were to move the Dayton terminal, on the Yamhill River, to Fulquartz Landing on the Willamette River. On the opposite bank of the Willamette, the railroad built Ray's Landing. This became the north terminus of the narrow gauge line on the east side of the Willamette valley. The line connected towns such as St. Paul, Woodburn, Silverton, Brownsville, and Coburg.
