Bolzano
Bolzano ( or ; german: Bozen, (formerly ); bar, Bozn; lld, Balsan or ) is the capital city of the province of South Tyrol in northern Italy. With a population of 108,245, Bolzano is also by far the largest city in South Tyrol and the third largest in historical Tyrol. The greater metro area has about 250,000 inhabitants and is one of the urban centers within the Alps. Bolzano is the seat of the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, where lectures and seminars are held in English, German, and Italian. The city is also home to the Italian Army's Alpini High Command (COMALP) and some of its combat and support units. Eisack
The Eisack (german: Eisack, ; it, Isarco ; Latin: ''Isarus'' or ''Isarcus'') is a river in Northern Italy, the second largest river in South Tyrol. Its source is near the Brenner Pass, at an altitude of about 1990 m above sea level. The river draws water from an area of about 4,200 km². After about 96 km, it joins the Adige river south of Bolzano. At first the river flows through the Wipptal and after the village of Vahrn through the Eisacktal. Its source is sung of in the ''Bozner Bergsteigerlied'' as the northern frontier of the South Tyrolean homeland. The major towns and villages along the course of the river are Sterzing, Franzensfeste, Brixen, Klausen, Waidbruck and finally the capital city of the province. In Brixen it merges with the Rienz. Penser Joch
The Penser Joch ( it, Passo di Pènnes; german: Penser Joch) (2211 m) is a high mountain pass in South Tyrol, northern Italy, near the Jaufenpass. It connects Bolzano via the Sarntal and with Sterzing in the Wipptal. It is the most direct road between Innsbruck and Bolzano. It is traversed by the SS 508 highway, which has a maximum grade of 13 percent. There is a restaurant at the summit. Although, it has been widened repeatedly in recent years, the road is still rather narrow.
