Talat Bakikhanov
Talat Soltan oglu Bakikhanov ( az, Tələt Soltan oğlu luBakıxanov; June 13, 1927 – May 30, 2000) was an Azerbaijani musician who played the kamancheh, a mugham performer. Life Talat Bakikhanov was born on June 13, 1927, in Baku. A huge role in his upbringing as a musician was played by his uncle Akhmed Bakikhanov. Talat studied with Hafiz Mirzaliyev and Firuz Alizadeh at the Azerbaijan National Conservatory Music College named after Asaf Zeynally in 1947–1949. Since 1947 he was a soloist of the Azerbaijan State Academic Philharmonic Hall named after Muslim Magomayev (musician), Muslim Magomayev. Talat Bakikhanov died on May 30, 2000, in Baku. Musical career Talat Bakikhanov performed not only within Azerbaijan, but also in France, Indonesia, Malta, Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Syria. ''If Not That One, Then This One'' (; ), also known as ''Mashadi Ibad'' (; ) is a 1910 Azerbaijani operetta in four acts written by composer Uzeyir Hajibeyov. The comedy reflects social and everyday life relations in prerevolutionary Azerbaijan. It is the composer's second work written in this genre, and is considered a national classic alongside the same composer's '' Arshin mal alan''. History Hajibeyov's second musical comedy was written in 1910, initially it was in three acts. After 1915, when an additional scene was written, it was recast in four acts. Hajibeyov used the Azerbaijani musical style mugam in some of the music and incorporated extracts from Fuzûlî's ghazals in the libretto. The operetta was reviewed in the ''Kaspi'' newspaper of April 7, 1911, which noted that its music included both traditional and newly-written melodies. Tofig Ahmed-agha oglu Bakikhanov ( az, Tofiq Əhmədağa oğlu Bakıxanov) is a composer. He was awarded the title People's Artists of the Azerbaijan SSR (1990). Biography Tofig Bakikhanov, a descendant of Baku khans, was born on 8 December 1930 in Baku, in the family of Ahmed–agha Bakikhanov, People's Artist of Azerbaijan. He began his musical activity as a violinist. In 1953, Tofig Bakikhanov graduated from the Azerbaijan State Conservatory specializing in violin, where Fikret Amirov was his teacher. In 1957, he majored in music composing, where his teacher was another prominent Azerbaijani composer Gara Garayev. In 1950-1953, Bakikhanov worked as a violinist in the trio of the Azerbaijan Philharmonic Society. In 1953, he was the teacher and head of the string department of the Zeynally Baku College of Music. The Bakikhanovs () are an Azerbaijani noble family descended from khans of Baku. History Progenitors of the line arrived in Baku after 1592. Bakikhanov, p.138 According to Abbasgulu Bakikhanov, ancestors of the family migrated to Baku from Gilan, after certain "Khan Ahmad affair", which probably means end of Malati ruler Sultan Ahmad Khan's reign. He claims ancestors of Baku khans were hailing from Nur and Kujur rulers ruling in Tabaristan, i.e. Paduspanids. First known members of the dynasty were Mammadhusein beg and his son Heybet beg. The Medal "Veteran of Labour" (russian: медаль «Ветеран труда») was a civilian labour award of the Soviet Union established on January 18, 1974 by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR to honour workers for many years of hard work in the national economy, sciences, culture, education, healthcare, government agencies and public organizations. Although it only had a relatively short eighteen years of existence, it was awarded nearly forty million times. Its regulations were detailed and approved by decree number 5999-VIII of May 20, 1974. Its statute was amended by multiple successive decrees of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, first on June 8, 1977, then on August 12, 1983 and lastly on December 28, 1987. Alim Hamza oghlu Qasimov ( az, Alim Həmzə oğlu Qasımov; born August 14, 1957) is an Azerbaijani musician and one of the foremost mugham singers in Azerbaijan. He was awarded the International Music Council-UNESCO Music Prize in 1999, one of the highest international accolades for music. His music is characterized by his vocal improvisation and represents a move away from the traditional style of mugham. Qasimov has recorded nine albums, three of which are mugham albums with his daughter, Farghana Qasimova.
