Taiwan High Speed Rail Museum
The Taiwan High Speed Rail Museum () is a museum in Zhongli District, Taoyuan City, Taiwan. History The museum was opened on 5 January 2017 in a ceremony attended by Premier Lin Chuan and Transportation and Communications Minister Hochen Tan. Exhibitions The museum consists of 19 themed exhibitions, including those on the history and construction of the High Speed Rail, and those on train construction and repair, and other high-speed rail systems worldwide. It also features a driver's cab simulator and various interactive displays. Transportation The museum is accessible walking south-west from the Taoyuan Station of the Taiwan High Speed Rail. Zhongli District
Zhongli District () is a District (Taiwan), district in Taoyuan City, Taiwan. Zhongli is spelled variously as ''Jungli'', ''Jongli'', ''Jhongli'' or ''Chungli'' on railway stations, bus stops and road signs. Historically, the city is the site of the Zhongli Incident of 1977, the most significant event of the democratization movement prior to the 1980s. Ethnically, it is considered a capital city for Hakka Taiwanese, who live in great numbers here and in surrounding areas; many elderly persons can speak Hakka Chinese, Hakka in addition to Standard Chinese, Mandarin and Taiwanese Hokkien. In recent years many foreign workers (mainly from the Overseas Filipino Worker, Philippines and Thailand) have also settled in and around the city due to the heavy industry in the suburbs of the city, making it a center for foreign laborers. Taoyuan () is a special municipality of the Republic of China (Taiwan) located in northwestern Taiwan, neighboring New Taipei City to the north-east, Yilan County to the south-east, and Hsinchu County to the south-west. Taoyuan HSR () is a high-speed rail and metro station in Zhongli District, Taoyuan, Taiwan, served by Taiwan High Speed Rail and Taoyuan Airport MRT, and is also known as Qingpu Station (). Lin Chuan (; born 13 December 1951) is a Taiwanese economist and politician who served as Premier of the Republic of China (Taiwan) from 2016 to 2017 under President Tsai Ing-wen. He served as Minister of Budget, Accounting and Statistics and Minister of Finance during Chen Shui-bian's presidency. Early life and education Lin is of Mainland Chinese descent, and was born in Kaohsiung on 13 December 1951. Hochen Tan (; born 6 December 1950) is a Taiwanese politician. He was the Minister of Transportation and Communications of the Republic of China from 20 May 2016 until 16 July 2018. Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) is the high-speed railway of Taiwan consisting of one line that runs approximately along the west coast, from the capital Taipei to the southern city of Kaohsiung. With construction and operations managed by a private company, Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation (THSRC; ), which also operates the line, the total cost of the project was billion in 1998.
