The Taiwan Halal Center (THC; ) is an organization that promotes the Halal industry in Taiwan. History The organization was established by Taiwan External Trade Development Council on 21 April 2017 in Taipei. It is part of the New Southbound Policy. Taiwan External Trade Development Council
The Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA; ) is a non-profit government co-sponsored trade promotion organization in Taiwan. It was founded in 1970 as China External Trade Development Council (CETRA). However, it changed its English name in January 2004. This was in order to avoid confusion with bodies representing the People's Republic of China. TAITRA assists Taiwan businesses and manufacturers to reinforce their international competitiveness and to cope with the challenges they face in foreign markets. Xinyi District, Taipei
Xinyi District or Sinyi District is the seat of the Taipei City Government and Taipei City Council. New Southbound Policy
The New Southbound Policy () is an initiative of the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) under President Tsai Ing-wen that aims to enhance cooperation and exchange between Taiwan and 18 countries in Southeast Asia, South Asia and Australasia. James C. F. Huang was appointed the first Director of the New Southbound Policy Office. History During the Cold War, the Republic of China was aligned with a number of countries in the Southeast Asia region in an anti-communist alliance during the Vietnam War. Islam In Taiwan
Islam is a minor religion in Taiwan and it represents about 0.3% of the population. There are around 60,000 Muslims in Taiwan, in which about 90% belong to the Hui ethnic group. There are also more than 250,000 foreign Muslims working in Taiwan from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines, as well as other nationalities from more than 30 countries. As of 2018, there are eleven mosques in Taiwan, with the most notable being the Taipei Grand Mosque, the oldest and largest one. Taiwanese Muslims are mostly descended from Chinese Muslims in Mainland China, and are Sunni Muslims mostly belonging to the Hanafi school. A sizeable Ahmadiyya community also exists. The Taiwan Halal Integrity Development Association (THIDA; ) is a certification body that produces Halal certificates in the Republic of China. The association is based in the Taipei Cultural Mosque in Taipei. History THIDA was inaugurated on 7 May 2011 in Taipei. The opening ceremony was attended by association managers, economic representatives, business people and around 300 Taiwan Halal Good Association companies and their relevant factions in Taiwan. Islamic dietary laws are dietary laws that Muslims follow. Islamic jurisprudence specifies which foods are '' '' (, "lawful") and which are '' '' (, "unlawful").
