Tahani Al-Gebali
Tahani al-Gebali ( ar, تهاني الجبالي; 20 November 1950 – 9 January 2022) was an Egyptian judge and a past Vice President of the Supreme Constitutional Court of Egypt. Biography In 2003, she was appointed to office by President Hosni Mubarak, becoming the first woman to hold a judiciary position in Egypt, and she remained the only female on the bench until 32 other Egyptian women were appointed to various judicial positions in 2007. In July 2012, ''The New York Times'' wrote that Supreme Constitutional Court Vice President Tahani al-Gebali advised the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces not to cede power to civilians until a constitution was written. This was denied by Judge al-Gebali, who announced she would sue the newspaper. Al-Gebali died from COVID-19 on 9 January 2022, at the age of 71. Tanta, Egypt
Tanta ( ar, طنطا ' , ) is a city in Egypt with the country's fifth largest populated area and 658,798 inhabitants as of 2018. Tanta is located between Cairo and Alexandria: north of Cairo and southeast of Alexandria. The capital of Gharbia Governorate, it is a center for the cotton-ginning industry. One of the major railway lines goes through Tanta. Annual festivals are held in Tanta for one week beginning on 11 October celebrating the birthday of Ahmad al-Badawi, a revered Sufi figure of the 13th century, who founded the Badawiyya Tariqa in Egypt and is buried in Ahmad Al-Badawi Mosque, the main mosque of Tanta. The 2012 Egyptian Presidential election was the first democratic presidential election of Egypt’s history. The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF; ar, المجلس الأعلى للقوات المسلحة, ', also Higher Council of the Armed Forces) is a statutory body of between 20 and 25 senior Egyptian military officers and is headed by Field Marshal Abdul Fatah al-Sisi and Lieutenant General Mohamed Ahmed Zaki.
