Table Tennis Victoria
Table Tennis Victoria (TTV) is the State Sporting Organisation for the Sport of Table Tennis in Victoria. TTV was formed in 1925. It is affiliated with TTA (Table Tennis Australia), the ITTF ( International Table Tennis Federation) and the OTTF ( Oceania Table Tennis Federation). TTV has over 4,500 registered members. Members have represented Australia in Olympic Games, Paralympic Games Commonwealth Games, Able Bodied and Para World Championships, the World Cup and numerous other international competitions; including junior, youth and veteran levels. At the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games Victoria's Miao Miao earned fifth place and took Silver at the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games. While at the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games Jian Fang Lay captured two Silver and one Bronze medal for Australia. Table Tennis
Table tennis, also known as ping-pong and whiff-whaff, is a sport in which two or four players hit a lightweight ball, also known as the ping-pong ball, back and forth across a table using small solid rackets. It takes place on a hard table divided by a net. Except for the initial serve, the rules are generally as follows: Players must allow a ball played toward them to bounce once on their side of the table and must return it so that it bounces on the opposite side. A point is scored when a player fails to return the ball within the rules. Play is fast and demands quick reactions. Spinning the ball alters its trajectory and limits an opponent's options, giving the hitter a great advantage. 2002 Commonwealth Games
The 2002 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XVII Commonwealth Games and commonly known as Manchester 2002 were held in Manchester, England, from 25 July to 4 August, 2002. TTV Super League
The Table Tennis Victoria Super League commenced on Good Friday, 6 April 2007, with its first ever Team Draft. The 2007 Table Tennis Victoria Super League brought 18 of Australia's top table tennis players together in a 10-week series involving 6 clubs. The stakes are high, only months away from qualification for the Beijing Olympics all players will want to make their mark. Each team will involve 2 male players and a female. Simon Gerada
Simon Gerada (born 20 March 1981) is a right-handed Australian/ Maltese Table Tennis Player. His father, Joe Gerada was born in Malta and emigrated to Australia in the 1980s. Simon Gerada was born and brought up in Melbourne, Australia and began playing at the age of 9 after he witnessed his father win a shopping centre tournament. He represented Victoria in national junior tournaments. David Zalcberg ( altsb''er''g) (born 4 May 1981, Melbourne, Victoria) is a left-handed Australian former table tennis player. Table tennis career Zalcberg began playing table tennis at age of 12. He represented Australia at the 1997 Maccabiah Games in Israel. He was part of the Australian delegation that was involved in the tragic bridge collapse during the opening ceremony of the games. Jian Fang Lay-Hong (; born 6 March 1973), is a right-handed Chinese-born Australian ladies table tennis player. She plays penhold, with a long pimple rubber at one side for use of attacking, blocking as well as chopping. She is currently number 1 female player in Australia, as well as number 141 in the world. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Lay-Hong became the first Australian woman to compete at 6 Olympic games. She won her first 3 matches but then lost in Round 3 to Han Ying of Germany 4-0 so did not advance to the round of 16. Miao Miao () (born 14 January 1981, Tianjin, China) is an Australian table tennis player who represented Australia at the Sydney, Athens, Beijing and London Olympic Games. Her best Olympic result was the quarter finals of the doubles tournament in Sydney. At the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, she won a silver medal in the teams competition and a bronze medal in the doubles with Jian Fang Lay.
