The World Academy Of Sciences
The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) is a merit-based science academy established for developing countries, uniting 1,000 scientists in some 70 countries. Its principal aim is to promote scientific capacity and excellence for sustainable development in developing countries. It was formerly known as the ''Third World Academy of Sciences''. Its headquarters is located on the premises of the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste, Italy. Lúcia Mendonça Previato (born 1949) is a Brazilian biologist. She was awarded the L'Oréal-UNESCO Awards for Women in Science in 2004 for her research into preventing Chagas disease. She is married to Jose Osvaldo Previato and has two children, Anna and Peter. She graduated from St. Ursula University and earned her Doctorate at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in Microbiology and Immunology. Sukh Dev
Sukh Dev FNA, FASc (born 17 June 1923) is an Indian organic chemist, academic, researcher and writer, known for his contributions in the development of Guggulsterone, a plant-derived steroid used as a therapeutic and nutritional agent. He has conducted advanced research in biomedical science and natural products chemistry and holds 55 patents for his findings. He is a recipient of several honors including the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, the highest Indian award in science and technology. In 2008, the Government of India awarded him the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian honour of India, for his contributions to science and technology. Chen Chuangtian
Chen Chuangtian (; 18 February 1937 – 31 October 2018), also known as Chuang-Tian Chen, was a Chinese materials scientist and physical chemist who specialized in crystals used in lasers. He discovered the nonlinear optical crystals BBO, LBO and KBBF, which have important uses in areas including superconductor research, semiconductor photolithography, and the medical industry. He was an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a fellow of The World Academy of Sciences. Gautam Radhakrishna Desiraju
Gautam Radhakrishna Desiraju is an Indian structural chemist, educationist and a professor of Chemistry at the Indian Institute of Science. He has contributed substantially to the themes of crystal engineering and weak hydrogen bonding. He has authored books on these subjects in 1989 and 1999. He has co-authored a textbook in crystal engineering (2011). Padmanabhan Balaram
Padmanabhan Balaram is an Indian biochemist and a former director of the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, India. He is a recipient of the third highest Indian civilian honour of Padma Bhushan (2014) as well as the TWAS Prize (1994). He has been conferred the 2021 R. Bruce Merrifield Award by the American Peptide Society. Amitabha Chattopadhyay is an Indian scientist working in the areas of membrane and receptor biology and biophysics . Xu Guoliang
Xu Guoliang (; born February 1965) is a Chinese molecular geneticist. He is a professor at the Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Biography Xu graduated from Hangzhou University Department of Biology in 1985, and obtained his master's degree at Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1989. Satyajit Mayor (born 1963) is an Indian biologist. He serves as director of the National Centre for Biological Sciences, Bangalore. Partha Pratim Majumder ( bn, পার্থ প্রতিম মজুমদার; born 18 January 1954) is a Bangladeshi mime artist who is considered the "forerunner" of mime art in Bangladesh.
