TGOJ X20
X20, X21, X22 and X23 was a series of two to four car electric multiple units operated by Trafikaktiebolaget Grängesberg-Oxelösunds Järnvägar (TGOJ) of Sweden. Thirteen units were built by Hilding Carlssons Mekaniska Verkstad in 1956–59. One unit was sold to Tågkompaniet in 2001 and was the last unit in service after 2003 until it was taken out of service in 2009. The SJ X9 EMUs were partly derived from this type. History The X20-series was in service with TGOJ until 1989 when they were transferred to Statens Järnvägar (SJ) as a consequence of SJ buying TGOJ. Most of the units retained the TGOJ livery, though some were redecorated to SJs blue colors. During the 1990s they were taken out of service, the last leaving in 2001. An overhead line or overhead wire is an electrical cable that is used to transmit electrical energy to electric locomotives, trolleybuses or trams. A pantograph (or "pan" or "panto") is an apparatus mounted on the roof of an electric train, tram or electric bus to collect power through contact with an overhead line. By contrast, battery electric buses and trains are charged at charging stations. The pantograph is a common type of current collector; typically, a single or double wire is used, with the return current running through the rails. Electric Multiple Unit
An electric multiple unit or EMU is a multiple-unit train consisting of self-propelled carriages using electricity as the motive power. An EMU requires no separate locomotive, as electric traction motors are incorporated within one or a number of the carriages. An EMU is usually formed of two or more semi-permanently coupled carriages, but electrically powered single-unit railcars are also generally classed as EMUs. The great majority of EMUs are passenger trains, but versions also exist for carrying mail. EMUs are popular on commuter and suburban rail networks around the world due to their fast acceleration and pollution-free operation. Vy Tåg AB is a Swedish railway company that operates franchises in different parts of Sweden. The company was founded in 1999 by three former railway employees in Statens Järnvägar and the investment company Småföretagsinvest/Fylkinvest. In 2005 Norwegian State Railways (now Vy) purchased 34% of Svenska Tågkompaniet, and later on October 31, 2006 increased its ownership stake to 85%. In 2007 NSB purchased the rest of the company. Previously known as Tågkompaniet or Svenska Tågkompaniet AB (''The Swedish Train Company''), the company rebranded to Vy Tåg in 2019. In December 2020, Vy Tåg assumed operation of passenger services in Värmland, Sweden under a nine-year contract with Värmlandstrafik. SJ X9
X9 is a series of four-car electric multiple units operated by Statens Järnvägar (SJ) of Sweden as express trains. Twenty-three were built by Hilding Carlssons Mekaniska Verkstad between 1960–1963 and were in service with SJ until 1999. The sharp reddish orange colour gave the trains the nickname ''Paprika trains''. History The X9 was partially based on the X20/X21-series delivered by Hilding Carlsson to the private company TGOJ. The Swedish State Railways ( sv, Statens Järnvägar) or SJ, originally the Royal Railway Board ( sv, Kungl. Järnvägsstyrelsen), was the former government agency responsible for operating the state-owned railways in Sweden. It was created in 1887 as an agency belonging to the Ministry for Civil Service Affairs, with the task of managing all state-owned railway lines in Sweden, and was transferred to the Ministry of Communications in 1920. Storstockholms Lokaltrafik, or more formally Aktiebolaget Storstockholms Lokaltrafik (Greater Stockholm Local Transit Company), is the organisation running all of the land based public transport systems in Stockholm County. It was previously known as Stockholms Lokaltrafik and is commonly referred to as SL.
