TCDD 45171 Class
TCDD (Turkish Republic Railways) 45171 Class is a class of 2-8-0 steam locomotives. The class was formed when 50 USATC S160 Class were bought in 1947. TCDD also acquired USATC S200 Class 2-8-2s which formed the 46201 Class. TCDD Open Air Steam Locomotive Museum
The TCDD Open Air Steam Locomotive Museum ( tr, TCDD Açık Hava Buharlı Lokomotif Müzesi) is a railroad museum in Ankara, Turkey, which focuses on the history of steam locomotives that operated on the Turkish State Railways. The museum was originally located in a park adjacent to Ankara Central Station, and when the property was needed for the station's enlargement project in 2014, the museum was moved to the current location near Wonderland Eurasia. The museum is owned and operated by the Turkish State Railways (TCDD), who also manages the Ankara Railway History Museum, as well as Atatürk's Car and Railway Art Museum. ALCO Locomotives
The American Locomotive Company (often shortened to ALCO, ALCo or Alco) was an American manufacturer of locomotives, diesel generators, steel, and tanks that operated from 1901 to 1969. The company was formed by the merger of seven smaller locomotive manufacturers and Schenectady Locomotive Engine Manufactory of Schenectady, New York. A subsidiary, American Locomotive Automobile Company, designed and manufactured automobiles under the Alco brand from 1905 to 1913. ALCO also produced nuclear reactors from 1954 to 1962. The company changed its name to Alco Products, Incorporated in 1955. In 1964, the Worthington Corporation acquired the company. The company went out of business in 1969. The ALCO name is currently being used by Fairbanks Morse Engine for their FM, ALCO line. The Çamlık Railway Museum, a.k.a. Çamlık Steam Locomotive Museum, ( tr, Çamlık Tren Müzesi or ''Çamlık Buharlı Lokomotif Müzesi'') is an outdoor railway museum at Çamlık village of Selçuk district in Izmir Province, Turkey. It is the largest railway museum in Turkey and contains one of the largest steam locomotive collections in Europe. History The museum is located on a former part of the ORC mainline, the oldest line in Turkey, near the village Çamlık, very close to the historical site at Ephesus. When the tracks on the Izmir-to-Aydın main line were realigned, a small portion of the line, as well as the original Çamlık railway station, were abandoned. The museum was started in 1991, and completed in 1997. It uses the original tracks built in 1866. The State Railways of the Republic of Turkey ( tr, Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Devlet Demiryolları), abbreviated as TCDD, is a government-owned national railway company responsible with the ownership and maintenance of railway infrastructure in Turkey, as well as the planning and construction of new lines. TCDD 46201 Class
The Turkish Republic Railways (TCDD) 46201 Class is a class of ex-USATC Lend-Lease S200 Class 2-8-2 steam locomotives. Overview The USATC S200 Class was an American-designed locomotive which they lent-leased to the British for use in the Middle East. The first 29 locomotives, Nos. 46201–29 were delivered to the Turks in 1943. All were coal-burners. The Allies wanted to ensure that the Turks had efficient railway network should their supply lines extend through Turkey, while keeping neutral Turkey friendly towards them. Nazi Germany meanwhile also supplied DRG BR 52-type Kriegsloks to the Turks in 1943 which formed the 56501 Class. After the war, TCDD acquired 24 more engines, Nos. 46230–53, which were mostly oil-burners. The Turks also obtained ex-USATC S160 Class 2-8-0s which formed the 45171 Class. Under the Whyte notation for the classification of steam locomotives, represents the wheel arrangement of two leading wheels on one axle, usually in a leading truck, eight powered and coupled driving wheels on four axles and two trailing wheels on one axle, usually in a trailing truck. This configuration of steam locomotive is most often referred to as a Mikado, frequently shortened to Mike. At times it was also referred to on some railroads in the United States of America as the McAdoo Mikado and, during World War II, the MacArthur. The notation 2-8-2T indicates a tank locomotive of this wheel arrangement, the "T" suffix indicating a locomotive on which the water is carried in tanks mounted on the engine rather than in an attached tender.
