TCA Grade Cricket
Cricket Tasmania Premier League, or Tasmanian Premier Cricket, refers to the hierarchically graded cricket competitions played in Tasmania, Australia. The Cricket Tasmania Premier League comes under the administration of the Tasmanian Cricket Association (Cricket Tasmania). Grade Cricket in Australia is the next level below First class cricket, and as such, Male and Female players seeking selection for Tasmania's representative sides, the Tasmanian Tigers, must first prove themselves in the Premier League Competition. The club cricket competition in Tasmania is divided up into three main regional zones, South, North and North-west. Cricket
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. One Day International
A One Day International (ODI) is a form of limited overs cricket, played between two teams with international status, in which each team faces a fixed number of overs, currently 50, with the game lasting up to 9 hours. The Cricket World Cup, generally held every four years, is played in this format. One Day International matches are also called Limited Overs Internationals (LOI), although this generic term may also refer to Twenty20 International matches. They are major matches and considered the highest standard of List A, limited-overs competition. The international one day game is a late-twentieth-century development. The first ODI was played on 5 January 1971 between Australia and England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. University Of Tasmania Cricket Club
The University of Tasmania Cricket Club, also known as the "Lions", represent the University of Tasmania in Tasmania's Grade Cricket Competition. Although many of the players are students, or former students it is not compulsory to be so, in order to play for the cricket club. The Tasmanian University Cricket Club was founded in 1898, just eight years after the University itself was founded. Despite being founded over 60 years earlier, TUCC did not get accepted into TCA competitions until the 1960–61 season. TUCC have won six TCA premierships, including back to back wins in 1985–86 and 1986–87. TUCC competes in the TCA competition on Saturdays and Sundays from October to March. They have senior teams in First Grade, Second Grade, Third Grade and Fourth Grade (KSCA 5th Grade) and junior teams including U17, U15, U13, Hurricanes Stage 1&2 and Woolworths Master Blasters and Junior Blasters. South Hobart/Sandy Bay Cricket Club (SHSBCC), also known as "The Sharks", is a Grade level cricket club representing both South Hobart and Sandy Bay in Tasmania's Grade Cricket Competition. North Hobart Cricket Club also known as the "Demons" represent North Hobart in Tasmania's Grade Cricket Competition. North Hobart Cricket Club was founded in 1905, and won the "A Grade" competition in their first season, quickly establishing themselves as a powerful club in the TCA competition winning more 1st grade premierships than any other TCA club. New Town Cricket Club (NTCC), also known as "The Bucks", is a Grade level cricket club representing New Town in Tasmania's Grade Cricket Competition. NTCC play their home games at New Town Oval, in New Town, a suburb of Hobart. Lindisfarne Cricket Club (LCC), also known as "The Lightning", is a grade level cricket club representing Lindisfarne, Tasmania in Tasmania's Grade Cricket Competition. The LCC play their home games at Anzac Park, in Lindisfarne, a suburb of the City of Clarence. Lindisfarne were formed in 1891 and originally played in the Clarence Cricket Association.
