New Town Cricket Club
New Town Cricket Club (NTCC), also known as "The Bucks", is a Grade level cricket club representing New Town in Tasmania's Grade Cricket Competition. NTCC play their home games at New Town Oval, in New Town, a suburb of Hobart. New Town have won 13 premierships, including a remarkable 7 in 9 years during the 1960s, making them 5th on the overall winners list. Many talented players have played for New Town including three by the names of Joe Darling, Len Maddocks and Roger Woolley Roger Douglas Woolley (born 16 September 1954) is a former Australian cricketer who played in two Test matches and four One Day Internationals (ODIs) between 1983 and 1984. New Town, Tasmania
New Town is a suburb of the city of Hobart, Tasmania, Australia, about north of the central business district of Hobart. It is generally considered Hobart's oldest suburb, settled just a week after Sullivan's Cove. It was historically the home of many of Hobart's wealthiest citizens, and New Town features a large number of grand residences, churches, and public buildings. The large farms were broken up following the world wars and it is now an inner city residential suburb. Many of its streets are lined with Federation style cottages. Tasmanian Grade Cricket
Cricket Tasmania Premier League, or Tasmanian Premier Cricket, refers to the hierarchically graded cricket competitions played in Tasmania, Australia. The Cricket Tasmania Premier League comes under the administration of the Tasmanian Cricket Association (Cricket Tasmania). Grade Cricket in Australia is the next level below First class cricket, and as such, Male and Female players seeking selection for Tasmania's representative sides, the Tasmanian Tigers, must first prove themselves in the Premier League Competition. Joe Darling
Joseph Darling (21 November 1870 – 2 January 1946) was an Australian cricketer who played 34 Test cricket, Test matches as a specialist batsman between 1894 and 1905. As captain (cricket), captain, he led Australia in a total of 21 Tests, winning seven and losing four. In Test cricket, he scored 1,657 runs at an Batting average (cricket), average of 28.56 per Innings (cricket), innings, including three century (cricket), centuries. Darling toured England four times with the Australian team—in 1896, 1899, 1902 and 1905; the last three tours as captain. Len Maddocks
Leonard Victor Maddocks (24 May 1926 – 1 September 2016) was an Australian cricketer and cricket administrator who played in seven Tests from 1954 to 1956. He was born in Beaconsfield, Victoria. He played first-class cricket for Victoria and Tasmania, and he was trapped lbw by Jim Laker to be the last dismissal of ten in an innings by the latter, at Old Trafford in 1956. Maddocks was a wicket-keeper. He vied with Gil Langley for the position of Australian gloveman, replacing him when Langley was injured, although pressure from Langley, Don Tallon and Wally Grout, some of Australia's finest glovemen, meant he only played 7 tests. His career as a cricket administrator was marred by the 3–0 loss in the 1977 Ashes tour, and the World Series Cricket split during his managerial reign of the Australian cricket team. Roger Woolley
Roger Douglas Woolley (born 16 September 1954) is a former Australian cricketer who played in two Test matches and four One Day Internationals (ODIs) between 1983 and 1984. He was a middle-order batsman, and later a wicket-keeper. He was a member of the Tasmanian side that won their first domestic title in the 1978/79 Gillette Cup. Early career From a cricketing family, Woolley attended New Town High School in Hobart and played league cricket in England with Great Harwood Cricket Club in the Ribblesdale League. Woolley made his first-class debut in Tasmania's initial Sheffield Shield season, 1977–78. After he missed Tasmania's first two games, which they lost easily, Woolley was selected as a middle-order batsman, and scored 49, 55, 103, one, 29 and 32 not out, helping Tasmania draw all three games.
