T. Shanmugham
Thulukhanam Shanmugham (19 June 1920 – 13 December 2012) was an Indian footballer who represented his country in the 1952 Olympic Games. Playing career Born in Austin Town, Bangalore, Shanmugham played for Mysore State for most of his career, spurning offers to play for teams from Kolkata. He was a gold medalist at the first Asian Games in 1951. Coaching career Shanmugham was part of the first batch of coaches that came out of the National Institute of Sports, Patiala, in 1961. He was also one of the earliest to attend the 93-day FIFA coaching under Dettmar Cramer in Tokyo in 1969. Austin Town
Ferdinand Kittel Nagara, commonly known as Austin Town, is named after Ferdinand Kittel. It is a locality of the Bangalore Cantonment, named after British the Collector and Municipal President of the Civil and Military Station, Sir. James Austin. Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports, commonly known as National Institute of Sports (NIS), is the Academic Wing of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Asia's largest Sports Institute located in city of Patiala. 1983–84 Santosh Trophy
The 1983–84 Santosh Trophy was the 40th edition of the Santosh Trophy, the main State competition for football in India. It was held in April 1984 in Madras (now Chennai), Tamil Nadu. Goa beat Punjab 1–0 in the final to win the competition for their second time, and first as only-holders, after they held the trophy along with West Bengal in the previous edition. Arnold Rodrigues and Camilo Gonsalves (both Goa) were named the best forward and best player of the tournament respectively. 1968–69 Santosh Trophy
The 1968–69 Santosh Trophy was the 25th edition of the Santosh Trophy, the main State competition for football in India. It was held from 23 February to 29 March 1969 in Bangalore, Karnataka. The home team Mysore beat Bengal 1–0 in the final. Group stage Knockout stage Madras entered the quarter-finals after its victory against Assam in the group stage. However, Bengal and Punjab made the quarter-finals after their wins over Tripura and Bihar respectively in the pre-quarter-finals. The men's football tournament has been a regular Asian Games sporting event since the 1951 edition, while the women's tournament began in 1990. History The first Asian Games had football tournament. Salgaocar Football Club is an Indian professional football club based in Vasco, Goa, that competes in the Goa Professional League. The Federation Cup (also known as Hero Federation Cup for sponsorship reasons) was an annual knockout football competition in Indian football which started in 1977. From its inception, until I-League was started in 1997 (then called NFL), it was the most prestigious national level club football tournament in India. Until 2017, it was the most important club tournament after the I-League, to which it became a ''de facto'' League Cup. Winner of the Federation Cup was given direct entry in the AFC Cup. The Santosh Trophy, officially known as Hero Senior Men's National Football Championship due to sponsorship ties with Hero MotoCorp, is a state-level football competition contested by the state associations and government institutions under the All India Football Federation (AIFF), the sport's governing body in India. Before the starting of the first national club league, the National Football League in 1996, the Santosh Trophy was considered the top domestic honour in India.
