Hedal Stave Church
Hedalen Stave Church ( no, Hedalen stavkyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Sør-Aurdal Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. The stave church is located in the Hedalen valley. It is the church for the Hedalen parish which is part of the Valdres prosti ( deanery) in the Diocese of Hamar. The brown, wooden stave church was built in a cruciform design around the year 1160 using plans drawn up by an unknown architect. The church seats about 210 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1327, but the church was not built that year. The church was originally built during the second half of the 12th century, possibly around the year 1160. Modern dendrochronological studies have shown that the timbers of the church were originally cut around the year 1160. The church was originally a wooden long church with a single nave. Bagn is the administrative centre of Sør-Aurdal Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. The village is located in the Begnadalen valley, about to the southeast of the town of Fagernes. The river Begna runs through the village on its way through the Valdres region. The river has a tall waterfall at Bagn. Begna or Begna bruk is a village in Sør-Aurdal Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. The village is located in the Begnadalen valley, along the north shore of the river Begna, about to the southeast of the village of Bagn which is the municipal centre of Sør-Aurdal. Valdres
Valdres () is a traditional district in central, southern Norway, situated between the districts of Gudbrandsdalen and Hallingdal. The region of Valdres consists of the six municipalities of Nord-Aurdal, Sør-Aurdal, Øystre Slidre, Vestre Slidre, Vang and Etnedal. Valdres has about 18,000 inhabitants and is known for its excellent trout fishing and the local dialect. Its main road is E16 and Fylkesveg 51. Innlandet
Innlandet is a county in Norway. It was created on 1 January 2020 with the merger of the old counties of Oppland and Hedmark (the municipalities of Jevnaker and Lunner were transferred to the neighboring county of Viken on the same date). The new county has an area of , making it the second largest county in Norway after Troms og Finnmark county. The county name translates to "The Inland" which reflects that the county is the only landlocked county in Norway. Hedalen is a valley in Sør-Aurdal Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. The long valley is a side valley which branches off the main Begnadalen. The river Urula flows through the valley. The central part of the valley is located about to the northwest of Nes, Ådal, Nes i Ådal, about so the southeast of Bagn, and about to the east of Nesbyen (town), Nesbyen. The valley is characterized by coniferous forests, agriculture, agricultural properties, and scattered private homes, extends west and north, northwards from Nes, Ådal, Nes i Ådal at the south end of the Begnadalen valley as it heads towards the Vassfaret valley. Begnadalen or Begndalen is a valley in Norway. The valley runs through Sør-Aurdal Municipality in Innlandet county and Ringerike Municipality in Viken county. The long valley follows the river Begna from Bagn to the lake Sperillen. The European route E16 passes through the valley. Formannskapsdistrikt
() is the name for Norwegian local self-government districts that were legally enacted on 1 January 1838. This system of municipalities was created in a bill approved by the Parliament of Norway and signed into law by King Carl Johan on 14 January 1837.
