Søndermark Cemetery
Søndermark Cemetery (Danish: Søndermark Kirkegård) is a cemetery in the Frederiksberg district of Copenhagen, Denmark, located on Roskildevej, opposite Solbjerg Park Cemetery. It is the youngest of the three cemeteries in Frederiksberg Municipality. History The cemetery was designed by the landscape architect Gudmund Nyeland Brandt. Chapel and crematorium complex A competition for a combined crematorium and chapel was held in 1926 and won by Edvard Thomsen and Frits Schlegel. The complex, which in part differs from their winning proposal, was built from 1927 to 1930, and is one of the earliest examples of Modernism in religious architecture in Denmark. The facade front is decorated with a large relief designed by Einar Utzon-Frank. The Birkelunden area was inaugurated in 1963. Astrid Henning-Jensen (born Astrid Smahl; 10 December 1914 – 5 January 2002) was a Danish film director, actress, editor and screenwriter. Early life Henning-Jensen was born in the Copenhagen district of Frederiksberg in 1914, to parents Ferdinand Smahl and Ruth Hanner. She graduated from secondary school (''realskole'') and began working as an actress in the theatre. She acted from 1935 to 1938 in theatres such as ''Alléscenen'' and ''Riddersalen'' in Copenhagen. On 10 August 1938, she married Danish film director Bjarne Henning-Jensen. Career Her marriage to Bjarne Henning-Jensen was of great importance to her career. Guido Leo John Christmas Møller, usually known as Christmas Møller (3 April 1894 in Copenhagen – 13 April 1948 in Copenhagen) was a Danish politician representing the Conservative People's Party (Denmark), Conservative People's Party. Life Møller was elected as a Conservative member of the Folketinget, Folketing and in 1928 became leader of his party, a role he still held at the beginning of the Second World War. After the German occupation of Denmark, he joined a coalition cabinet, but in October 1940, following German pressure, he was forced to resign from the government, as the German authorities felt he was too negative towards them. Three months later, in 1941, he was forced to abandon his seat in folketinget, parliament altogether for the same reason. Benjamin Christensen (28 September 1879 – 2 April 1959) was a Danish people, Danish film director, screenwriter and an actor, both in film and on the stage. As a director, he is best known for the 1922 film ''Häxan'' (aka ''Witchcraft Through the Ages''). His most memorable acting performance was in the film ''Michael (1924 film), Michael'' (1924), where he played Claude Zoret, the male lover of the film's title character in a landmark gay film. Gösta Ernst Poul Schwarck (1915–2012) was a Denmark, Danish composer and businessman. He was mostly known for his activities as impresario for which he was eventually conferred upon as Doctor of Music. Gösta Schwarck was born into an artist family of Danish and German descent on September 14, 1915 in North East Germany. His father was a conductor Ernst Poul Schwarck and his mother an opera singer Marguerite Brian-Schwarck.
