Sénia River
The Cenia River ( es, Río Cenia, ca, Riu de la Sénia) is a river in the provinces of Castellón and Tarragona, Spain It begins its course at in the Barranc del Salt, Ports de Beseit limestone massif near La Pobla de Benifassà. The Cenia River flows from west to east marking the historical limits between Catalonia (Montsià) and the Valencian Community ( Baix Maestrat). It ends its course in the Mediterranean Sea at Sòl de Riu., between Vinaròs and Alcanar municipalities. Its flow is highly irregular. Some years its riverbed remains dry during the whole stretch of its lower course. The Ulldecona Dam is a dam built across three tributaries of the Sénia river in the Tinença de Benifassà area. With a surface of and a capacity of , its reservoir is very important for the irrigation of fields of the region. Ports De Beseit
Ports de Tortosa-Beseit (), also known as Ports de Beseit, or simply as Els Ports or Lo Port by locals, is a limestone mountain massif located at the north-eastern end of the Sistema Ibérico, a complex system of mountain ranges and massifs in the centre of the Iberian Peninsula. Its highest point is Mont Caro, 1,441 m. Rivers such as the Matarranya and the Sénia have their source in these mountains. Description At the 1350 m high Tossal dels Tres Reis (Peak of the Three Kings), where the borders of the ancient Kingdoms of Valencia, Catalonia and Aragon meet, there is a cairn marking the meeting point of the ancient three kingdoms of the Crown of Aragon. It is mostly a limestone massif, with many steep cliffs, jagged peaks, deep valleys, shafts and caves. The area is mostly uninhabited except for small villages. Vinaròs
Vinaròs () is a city located in eastern Spain and the capital of the Baix Maestrat in the province of Castelló. It is in the border between the Valencian Country and Catalonia. Vinaròs is a fishing harbour and tourist destination. History The first historical record of Vinaròs is in 1233, when the Moorish hamlet of ''Binarlaros-Ibn Arus'' in eastern al-Andaluz was captured by King James I of Aragon. It was under rule of the Knights templar order between 1294 and 1311, and of the order of Montesa during the 14th century. The town grew during the 16th and 17th centuries, when fortifications and navy yards were built, and attained great prosperity during the following two centuries, due to its involvement in ship building and Valencian wine trade. Taula Del Sénia
The Taula del Sénia () or Mancomunitat de la Taula del Sénia is a commonwealth or free association of municipalities made up of 22 towns, totalling up to 100,000 people, of some of the comarcas that make up the center of the historical region of Ilercavonia (present day southern Aragon and Catalonia, and northern Valencia), Spain. The origin of the name lies in the fact that all municipal terms involved are located within 15 km of the Sénia River, perceived as the centre of the region in its upper course. Goals The Taula del Sénia's main purpose is to alleviate the historical neglect of this greater comarca by managing its public municipal resources meaningfully. The organization of the municipalities in a mancomunidad may allow the region to achieve the necessary legal recognition for its administrative development. La Sénia
La Sénia is a municipality in the ''comarca'' of Montsià in Catalonia, Spain. This town is located in a plain by the Sénia River at the western end of the Montsià county. The limestone massif of the Ports de Tortosa-Beseit rises a few miles west of the town. There are important celebrations every year in September in honor of Our Lady of Pallerols. History La Sénia was an important resting point for wayfarers and transhumant cattle herders in the past with roadside inns where travelers could rest and recover from the day's journey. In 1937 a military airfield was built by the Spanish Republican Air Force. Its location was chosen due to its strategic position, equidistant of the then republican cities of Barcelona and Valencia (for defensive purposes) and the then nationalist Zaragoza and Mallorca island (for attack purposes). Tinença De Benifassà
Tinença de Benifassà () is a historical ''comarca'' of the Valencian Community, Spain. It is nowadays part of the Baix Maestrat, one of the present-day Comarques of the Valencian Community, even though commercial and human relationships have been stronger with Els Ports in the west, the Terres de l'Ebre in the northeast and the Matarranya in the northwest in historical times. Geography The Tinença de Benifassà is situated within a mountainous area known as Muntanyes de Benifassà located in the southern region of the Ports de Tortosa-Beseit. Ulldecona Dam
The Ulldecona Dam, known locally as ''Embassament d'Ulldecona'' or ''Pantà d'Ulldecona'' ( es, Embalse de Ulldecona) is a gravity dam located in the Tinença de Benifassà and the Ports de Tortosa-Beseit mountains, within the La Pobla de Benifassà municipal limits, Valencian Community, Spain. The dam was built in 1967 and was financed by farmers from the town of Ulldecona, hence its name. Description The reservoir is at the confluence of three seasonal rivers, the Barranc de la Fou, Barranc de Teulatí, also known as Barranc de la Tenalla, and the Barranc de la Pobla, all part of the Sénia River basin. Its reservoir reaches a surface of 817 ha with a capacity of 11 hm³. This dam belongs to the Júcar, Hydrographic Confederation of the Xúquer (''Confederación Hidrográfica del Júcar/Confederació Hidrogràfica del Xúquer'').
