The Gold Coast Aquatic Centre (also known as the Optus Aquatic Centre for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games) is a public swimming pool complex located in the Southport Broadwater Parklands on the Gold Coast, Queensland. It was the swimming and diving facility for the 2018 Commonwealth Games. History The ''Gold Coast Aquatic Centre'' opened in the 1960s as the ''Southport Pool''. The complex was renamed to the ''Gold Coast Aquatic Centre'' in the late 2000s. In 2018, the Gold Coast hosted the Commonwealth Games. The ''Gold Coast Aquatic Centre'' was the swimming and diving facility for the event. Approximately $40 million was spent on redeveloping the complex. The redevelopment included the construction of an additional 10-lane competition pool, additional change rooms and new meeting rooms. Georgia Bohl (born 11 April 1997) is a former Australian breaststroke swimmer. In 2016, she qualified for her first Olympic Games. Career In November 2015, at the Australian short course championships, Bohl, aged 18, won her first national title in the 100 metre breaststroke with the fourth fastest time ever by an Australian: 1:04.65. On the final night of the meet, she took out her second title in the 50 metre breaststroke with a time of 30.03 seconds. The 2018 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XXI Commonwealth Games and also known as Gold Coast 2018, was an international multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth that were held on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, between 4 and 15 April 2018. It was the fifth time Australia had hosted the Commonwealth Games and the first time a major multi-sport had an equal number of events for male and female athletes. 4,426 athletes including 300 para-athletes from 71 Commonwealth Games Associations took part in the event. Lillia Camille King (born February 10, 1997) is an American swimmer who specializes in breaststroke. She currently represents the Cali Condors, a team that is part of the International Swimming League. At the 2016 Summer Olympics she won the gold medal in the 100 meter breaststroke competition and also won a gold medal in the 4x100 meter medley relay, in which she swam the breaststroke leg.
