Svein Sevje
Svein Reidar Sevje (born 29 October 1948) is a Norwegian diplomat, particularly known for his work in the Middle East. A few months after the Six Day war Sevje volunteered in the Israeli kibbutz of Mishmar HaEmek, and later joined a Hebrew school. He is a trained historian, and graduated in 1977 from the University of Oslo. Working for the Norwegian Foreign Service for several years, Sevje advanced in 1992 to become assistant secretary. He then headed the Foreign Ministry's Africa section from 1993-1994, and the Middle East section from 1998-2002. He was stationed in Israel during the Norwegian role in subsequent deals regarding the Oslo Accords known as "Oslo 2", and earlier in 1995 was the first diplomatic representative of Norway to The Palestinian Authority. The Middle East ( ar, الشرق الأوسط, ISO 233: ) is a geopolitical region commonly encompassing Arabian Peninsula, Arabia (including the Arabian Peninsula and Bahrain), Anatolia, Asia Minor (Asian part of Turkey except Hatay Province), East Thrace (European part of Turkey), Egypt, Iran, the Levant (including Syria (region), Ash-Shām and Cyprus), Mesopotamia (modern-day Iraq), and the Socotra Governorate, Socotra Archipelago (a part of Yemen). Royal Norwegian Order Of Merit
The Royal Norwegian Order of Merit (Norwegian: ''Den Kongelige Norske Fortjenstorden'' (Bokmål) or ''Den Kongelege Norske Fortenesteordenen'' (Nynorsk)) was instituted by King Olav V in 1985. It is awarded to foreigners, Norwegian citizens living abroad, Ministry of Foreign Affairs diplomats, foreign civil servants in Norway, and Norway's honorary consuls for "outstanding service in the interests of Norway". Its counterpart, the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav, is generally only awarded to Norwegian citizens living in Norway. Jon Hanssen-Bauer
Jon Hanssen-Bauer (born 5 April 1952) is a Norwegian social anthropologist, peace researcher and diplomat. After taking his mag.art. degree in social anthropology at the University of Oslo in 1982 he was hired at the Work Research Institute. From 1988 to 1993 he worked at the Norwegian Work Life Centre, and from 1993 to 2005 for the Fafo Foundation. At Fafo he started as research director and then led its Institute for International Studies from 1998. Hanssen-Bauer had advised the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the Middle East peace process since 1994, and was appointed as senior adviser there in 2005. Hans Jacob "Jakken" Biørn Lian (born 31 March 1942) is a Norwegian diplomat. He was born in Oslo and was educated at University of Neuchâtel. He started working for the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1967. He headed the Norwegian delegation that negotiated the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe. He was then a deputy under-secretary of state in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1992 to 1994, the Norwegian ambassador to the United Nations in New York City from 1994 to 1997, and Norway's Permanent Representative to NATO from 1997 to 2002. From 2002 to 2004 he was a special advisor of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, tasked with monitoring the Middle East peace process.
