Susie Palfreyman
Susie Palfreyman (born 11 Feb 1952) is an Australian former representative rowing coxswain. She was a five time national champion, a representative at World Championships and in 1980 was a member of Australia's first Olympic representative women's rowing crew. Club and state rowing Susie Palfreyman commenced her senior rowing with the University of Western Australia Boat Club. Later she rowed with the Melbourne University Ladies Boat Club and Mercantile Rowing Club. She first made state selection for Western Australia in 1973. In 1976 and 1977 she coxed West Australian state women's fours contesting the ULVA Trophy at the Interstate Regatta. By 1978 she had relocated to Victoria and the Melbourne University Boat Club. She coxed Victorian women's crews which won the ULVA Trophy in 1978, 1979, 1980 and 1983. Melbourne University Boat Club is a rowing club in Melbourne, Australia. Its clubhouse or "boat shed" is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register in 2000. Head Of The Schoolgirls (Victoria)
The Victorian Head of the Schoolgirls regatta is contested between girls at schools from all across the state of Victoria Australia. Schools from the Girls Sport Victoria (GSV) and also Associated Public Schools of Victoria (APS), as well as smaller school rowing groups which enter under a rowing club banner, compete in a range of events over 1000m for the Year 9 and Year 10 events or 1500m for the Open events (typically girls in years 11 and 12). Whereas in most rowing, coxswains can be of either sex, in the HOSG all coxswains must be female and attend the same school as the rowers of the crew that they are coxing. The racing is usually held over an entire weekend (Friday, Saturday & Sunday) in mid-March on the Barwon River in Geelong. Rowing is the act of propelling a human-powered watercraft using the sweeping motions of oars to displace water and generate reactional propulsion. Rowing is functionally similar to paddling, but rowing requires oars to be mechanically attached to the boat, and the rower drives the oar like a lever, exerting force in the ''same'' direction as the boat's travel; while paddles are completely hand-held and have no attachment to the boat, and are driven like a cantilever, exerting force ''opposite'' to the intended direction of the boat. Verna Westwood (born 30 August 1955) is an Australian former representative rower. She was seven times an Australian national champion, represented at two World Rowing Championships and was a member of Australia's first Olympic representative women's rowing crew, competing in the women's coxed four event at the 1980 Summer Olympics. Pam Westendorf
Pamela Westendorf (born 28 September 1959) is an Australian former representative rower. She won twenty-three Australian national championships, was an Olympian, represented at five World Championships over a twelve-year period and won a silver medal at the 1990 World Rowing Championships. Club and state rowing Westendorf started her rowing career as a schoolgirl in Dimboola, Victoria. Her senior club rowing was from the Dimboola Rowing Club and later from the Melbourne University Boat Club. Westendorf first made Victorian state representation as a 15 year old in 1974 Colts series raced against New Zealand. She was an eight time Australian national champion, twice represented at World Rowing Championships and was a member of Australia's first Olympic representative women's rowing crew, competing in the women's coxed four event at the 1980 Summer Olympics.
