Anne Chirnside
Dr. Anne Elizabeth Chirnside (born 9 September 1954) is an Australian former representative rower rower and a general practitioner of medicine in rural Victoria. She was an eight time Australian national champion, twice represented at World Rowing Championships and was a member of Australia's first Olympic representative women's rowing crew, competing in the women's coxed four event at the 1980 Summer Olympics. Club and state rowing Chirnside commenced her senior rowing with the Melbourne University Boat Club in 1973. From 1976 to 1978 she raced for the YWCA Rowing Club in Melbourne but then returned to the MUBC. She first made state selection for Victoria in 1977 as a reserve for the coxed four to contest the ULVA Trophy at the annual Interstate Regatta within the Australian Rowing Championships, though she did not race. Rowing (sport)
Rowing, sometimes called crew in the United States, is the sport of racing boats using oars. It differs from paddling sports in that rowing oars are attached to the boat using oarlocks, while paddles are not connected to the boat. Rowing is divided into two disciplines: sculling and sweep rowing. In sculling, each rower holds two oars—one in each hand, while in sweep rowing each rower holds one oar with both hands. There are several boat classes in which athletes may compete, ranging from single sculls, occupied by one person, to shells with eight rowers and a coxswain, called eights. Tim Young (Australian Rower)
Timothy James Young (born 11 August 1956) is an Australian former Olympic representative rower. He was twice an Australian national champion, represented twice at World Championships and competed in the men's eight event at the 1980 Summer Olympics. Club and state rowing Young's senior club rowing was from the Monash University Rowing Club. In 1978 he stroked the Monash senior VIII which won the men's eight championship at that year's Australian University Rowing Championships. State representative honours first came for Young in 1974 when was selected to represent Victoria as the men's youth eight contesting the Noel Wilkinson Trophy at the Interstate Regatta within the Australian Rowing Championships. That crew placed third. In 1976 Young moved into the Victorian men's senior eight which contested the King's Cup at the annual Interstate Regatta. Little River, Victoria
Little River is a town in Victoria, Australia, approximately south-west of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Cities of Greater Geelong and Wyndham local government areas. Little River recorded a population of 1,353 at the 2021 census. History The Little River has headwaters in the nearby Brisbane Ranges. Susie Palfreyman (born 11 Feb 1952) is an Australian former representative rowing coxswain. She was a five time national champion, a representative at World Championships and in 1980 was a member of Australia's first Olympic representative women's rowing crew.
