Surjo Dighol Bari
''Surja Dighal Bari'' (''The Ominous House'') is a 1979 Bangladeshi feature film directed and produced by Sheikh Niamat Ali and Masihuddin Shaker. The screenplay was based on Abu Ishaque's 1955 novel of the same title. It was the first film made from the Government of Bangladesh grant. The film was first released in a theater in Natore. The film won Bangladesh National Film Award in 7 categories including Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Actress. It also won five international awards, including Mannheim Film Festival and Portugal Film Society. Sheikh Niamat Ali
Sheikh Niamat Ali (30 April 1940 – 24 November 2003) was a Bangladeshi film director. He won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Director in 1979, 1985 and 1995 for all the three feature films he ever made - ''Surja Dighal Bari'', ''Dahan'' and ''Anyajiban'' respectively. Career In 1977, Ali and his co-director Masihuddin Shaker started shooting the film ''Surja Dighal Bari''. The film was based on a novel by Abu Ishaque about the rural people in the 1950s. It won five international awards, including Mannheim Film Festival and Portugal Film Society. It was the first film made from Bangladesh government grant. Ahmed Muztaba Zamal
Ahmed Muztaba Zamal is a Bangladeshi film critic. He is editor of ''Celluloid'', a quarterly film magazine, and is director of the Dhaka International Film Festival. Biography Zamal first attended a film festival, the Munich Film Festival, in 1991. The following year he started the Dhaka International Film Festival. Major film festivals, in addition to the juries selected by the festival to award its prizes, often feature independent juries that follow their own criteria to award their own prizes.
