Suranjith Dharmasena
Suranjith Dharmasena (born 26 December 1965) is a Sri Lankan cricketer who played for Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club. He played in twenty-eight first-class and five List A matches between 1989 and 1993. Early life Dharmasena was born in Colombo in 1965. His mother, Sopahia ( Marasinghe) represented Ceylon in volleyball and netball. Suranjith and his brother Kishan both attended Thurstan College, where Suranjith was cricket captain in 1984. Playing career Dharmasena played in Sri Lankan domestic cricket for Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club, making his first-class cricket debut in 1989. His Sri Lankan cricket career was cut short when, in 1993, he moved to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to work as a banker. His career continued in the UAE, where he was a prolific batsman in club cricket. In February 2020, he was named in Sri Lanka's squad for the Over-50s Cricket World Cup in South Africa. Tamil Union Cricket & Athletic Club is a first-class cricket team based in Colombo, Sri Lanka. They play their home games at P. Saravanamuttu Stadium. History The club can trace its roots back to the final years of the 19th century in which two pre-existing rival clubs amalgamated to form the Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club. List A cricket is a classification of the limited-overs (one-day) form of the sport of cricket, with games lasting up to eight hours. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out").
