Supersystem (band)
Supersystem was a band from Washington, D.C. described as a mix of rock, punk, pop and dance music. Originally El Guapo, the group changed their name after adding a new drummer and because of a general dislike of the original name. El Guapo consisted of keyboardist Pete Cafarella, guitarist Rafael Cohen, bassist "Justin Destroyer" ( Justin Moyer), and drummer Nate Smith; Smith left the band before they signed to Dischord. Supersystem consisted of Cafarella, Cohen, Moyer, and drummer Joshua Blair. The group disbanded in November 2006. Moyer records and tours under the name "Edie Sedgwick"; Blair drums in Orthrelm; Cafarella and Smith play in the duo Shy Child; and Cohen is a member of !!! !!! Dischord Records is a Washington, D.C.-based independent record label specializing in punk rock. The label is co-owned by Ian MacKaye and Jeff Nelson, who founded Dischord in 1980 to release ''Minor Disturbance'' by their band The Teen Idles. Touch And Go Records
Touch and Go Records is an American independent record label based in Chicago, Illinois. After its genesis as a handmade fanzine in 1979, it grew into one of the key record labels in the American 1980s underground and alternative rock scenes. Touch & Go carved out a reputation for releasing adventurous noise rock by the likes of Big Black, the Butthole Surfers, and The Jesus Lizard. Shy Child
Shy Child were an American electronic music duo from New York City, United States, consisting of Pete Cafarella on vocals and synthesizers and Nate Smith on drums. History Shy Child formed in the summer of 2000, when former college friends Pete Cafarella and Nate Smith separately moved to New York City. The duo shared a love for progressive rock and electronic music, and started playing music together in an attempt to create a fusion of the genres. Shy Child recorded their debut album, '' Please Consider Our Time'', in 2001. Originally sold through local record shops, Grenadine Records signed the band and re-released it proper in 2002, followed by the Humanity EP in 2003. In 2004 the band released their second album, '' One with the Sun'', on New York label Say Hey Records. Justin Moyer
Justin Moyer (born 1977) is an American musician and journalist. He has been a member of many Washington, D.C.-based bands on Dischord Records, including El Guapo, Supersystem, Antelope, and E.D. Sedgwick. He writes for ''The Washington Post''. Bands El Guapo/Supersystem Moyer formed El Guapo with Rafael Cohen, now a member of !!!, at Wesleyan university in 1996, when Moyer and Cohen were juniors. After recording for Resin, Mud Memory, Dischord, and Touch and Go Records, the band broke up in 2006. Antelope Moyer formed Antelope with Bee Elvy and Mike Andre in 2001. After releasing an eponymous EP produced by Trans Am's Phil Manley as well as a single and full-length produced by Ian MacKaye, the band broke up in 2008. Edith Minturn Sedgwick Post (April 20, 1943 – November 16, 1971) was an American actress and fashion model, known for being one of Andy Warhol's superstars.Watson, Steven (2003), "Factory Made: Warhol and the Sixties" Pantheon Books, pp. 210–217 Sedgwick became known as "The Girl of the Year" in 1965 after starring in several of Warhol's short films in the 1960s.
