OV (album)
''OV'' is an album by the experimental duo Orthrelm featuring guitarist Mick Barr and drummer Josh Blair. The band's second LP-length release, it was recorded in 2004, and was issued in 2005 by Ipecac Recordings. The album consists of a single, 46-minute track titled "OV". The work was debuted during live shows two years before being recorded. Regarding its origins, Blair recalled: "I came up with simple patterns, things that were almost symmetrical but not exactly... I crawled inside them to see what could come out of them." He described performances as "mentally and physically draining," and noted: "we focus on keeping the energy up through repetitive sections and thinking about the whole flow of the song." Reception In a review for AllMusic, Greg Prato wrote: "Few albums will ever test your endurance like Orthrelm's OV. No vocals, no bass, just intense -- really intense -- repetition... The average listener probably won't be able to sit through the whole shebang, but if you do, ...

Norildivoth Crallos-Lomrixth Urthiln
''Norildivoth Crallos-Lomrixth Urthiln'' (also referred to as ''2nd 18/O4 Norildivoth Crallos-Lomrixth Urthiln'') is an album by the experimental duo Orthrelm featuring guitarist Mick Barr and drummer Josh Blair. The band's first LP-length release, it was recorded in 2001, and was issued in 2002 by Three One G. Reception In a review for AllMusic, Stewart Mason wrote: "there are elements of death metal in Mick Barr's ultra-shred guitar style and Josh Blair's neck-snapping tempos, but there's at least as much Sonny Sharrock and John Bonham, among other influences you wouldn't expect... This is a true rarity, an album that fans of Slayer, King Crimson and Eugene Chadbourne should be able to get into about equally." In a year-end review of 2002's best releases, Brent Burton of the Washington City Paper commented: "In a good-to-great year of hard rockin' art-tweakage..., Orthrelm earns the top-10 nod for having the least comprehensible worldview. The D.C. instrumental duo's oeuvre all ...

Asristir Vieldriox
Asristir Vieldriox (sometimes spelt Asristirveildrioxe) is an EP released by the avantgarde band Orthrelm. It was released by Troubleman Unlimited Records in February 2002. Despite having 99 tracks on it (the maximum any CD can hold), each one is only 5 to 15 seconds in length, therefore making the entire release only 13 minutes long in total. Due to this it cannot be classed as an album but an EP instead. Each track mainly consists of quick and abrasive guitar lines with corresponding drum parts. There are no vocals. The style of this EP is best described as Abstract, Grindcore, Experimental and Avantgarde. Reception In a review for AllMusic, William York wrote: "this is constantly jarring, nerve-rattling stuff. In fact, due to the extreme compositional density and compression of this music, one is tempted afterwards to throw on some Anton Webern or early Napalm Death -- two infamous champions of brevity -- just to decompress a little bit." He recommended the album for "curios ...

Minimalism
In visual arts, music and other media, minimalism is an art movement that began in post–World War II in Western art, most strongly with American visual arts in the 1960s and early 1970s. Prominent artists associated with minimalism include Donald Judd, Agnes Martin, Dan Flavin, Carl Andre, Robert Morris, Anne Truitt and Frank Stella. The movement is often interpreted as a reaction against abstract expressionism and modernism; it anticipated contemporary postminimal art practices, which extend or reflect on minimalism's original objectives. Minimalism in music often features repetition and gradual variation, such as the works of La Monte Young, Terry Riley, Steve Reich, Philip Glass, Julius Eastman and John Adams. The term ''minimalist'' often colloquially refers to anything or anyone that is spare or stripped to its essentials. It has accordingly been used to describe the plays and novels of Samuel Beckett, the films of Robert Bresson, the stories of Raymond Carver, an ...

Shred Guitar
Shred guitar or shredding is a virtuoso lead guitar solo playing style for the guitar, based on various advanced and complex playing techniques, particularly rapid passages and advanced performance effects. Shred guitar includes "fast alternate picking, sweep-picked arpeggios, diminished and harmonic scales, finger-tapping and whammy-bar abuse", It is commonly used in heavy metal guitar playing, where guitarists use the electric guitar with a guitar amplifier and a range of electronic effects such as distortion, which create a more sustained guitar tone and facilitate guitar feedback effects. The term is sometimes used with reference to virtuoso playing by instrumentalists other than guitarists, as well. The term "shred" is also used outside the metal idiom, particularly in bluegrass musicians and jazz-rock fusion electric guitarists. History Many jazz guitarists in the 1950s such as Les Paul, Barney Kessel and Tal Farlow improvised various guitar techniques comparing to co ...

Avant-garde Rock
Experimental rock, also called avant-rock, is a subgenre of rock music that pushes the boundaries of common composition and performance technique or which experiments with the basic elements of the genre. Artists aim to liberate and innovate, with some of the genre's distinguishing characteristics being improvisation (music), improvisational performances, avant-garde influences, odd instrumentation, opaque lyrics (or instrumentals), unorthodox structures and rhythms, and an underlying rejection of commercial aspirations. From its inception, rock music was experimental, but it was not until the late 1960s that rock artists began creating extended and complex compositions through advancements in multitrack recording. In 1967, the genre was as commercially viable as Popular music, pop music, but by 1970, most of its leading players had incapacitated themselves in some form. In Germany, the krautrock subgenre merged elements of improvisation and psychedelic rock with electronic music, ...
