Sumrie Tournament
The Sumrie Tournament was a professional golf tournament played at the Notts Golf Club, Kirkby in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, England. The event was held just once, in 1968, and had total prize money of ﾂ｣6,000. The event was sponsored by C. & M. Sumrie Ltd of Leeds, clothing manufacturers and had a field of 100, the leading 80 in the 1967 Order of Merit and 20 invitations. The tournament was played with the bigger ball (). Kirkby In Ashfield
Kirkby-in-Ashfield is a market town in the Ashfield District of Nottinghamshire, England. With a population of 25,265 (according to the 2001 National Census), it is a part of the wider Mansfield Urban Area. Notts Golf Club, more commonly referred to simply as Hollinwell, is an 18-hole members golf club in Nottinghamshire, England which has hosted a number of leading amateur and professional competitions. The course has widely been reviewed as one of the top 50 courses in England and the British Isles. Name The name Hollinwell reportedly relates to the presence of a holy well in trees close to the 8th fairway, and is the more-commonly used name for the golf course itself. Brian Huggett
Brian George Charles Huggett, (born 18 November 1936) is a Welsh professional golfer. He won sixteen events on the European circuit, including two after the formal start of the European Tour in 1972. In 1968 he won the Harry Vardon Trophy for leading the Order of Merit. He played in the Ryder Cup six times and was a non-playing captain. He also won 10 times on the European Seniors Tour between 1992 and 2000, including the 1998 Senior British Open. ﾃ］gel Gallardo (born 29 July 1943) is a Spanish professional golfer. Gallardo was a member of the European Tour from its first official season in 1972 until 1982. He finished in the top one hundred of the European Tour Order of Merit in each of those eleven seasons, with a best ranking of tenth in 1977. His only official European Tour win was the 1977 Italian Open however he did win the 1967 Portuguese Open and the 1970 Spanish Open, events that would soon be enfolded into the European Tour schedule. He also won the 1971 Mexican Open. He was the second non-British golfer to be elected as Captain of the PGA of Great Britain and Ireland in 1982. Since leaving the tour, Gallardo has worked as a coach and as a golf course architect, with work that has included co-designing the PGA Golf de Catalunya, venue for the Open de Espaﾃｱa in 2009.
