Summerhill (band)
Summerhill were a Scottish jangle pop band formed by former members of Snakes of Shake. They released two albums before splitting up in 1990. They reformed briefly a few years later. History The band was formed in 1987 and 1988 by formed Snakes of Shake members Seori Burnett, Neil Scott, and Iain Shedden, along with bassist Keith Gilles.Strong, Martin C. Jangle Pop
Jangle pop is a subgenre of pop rock or college rock that emphasizes jangly guitars and 1960s-style pop melodies. The term originated from Bob Dylan's song " Mr. Tambourine Man", whose 1965 rendition by the Byrds became considered one of the genre's representative works. Since the 1960s, jangle pop has crossed numerous genres, including power pop, psychedelia, new wave, post-punk, and lo-fi. Snakes of Shake were a Scottish band formed in 1984, whose indie pop sound incorporated cajun and folk influences. They released two albums before splitting up in 1987, with some members subsequently forming Summerhill. History The band was formed in Glasgow in 1983 by Seori Burnette. Iain Shedden
Iain Shedden (6 January 1957 – 16 October 2017) was a Scottish-born Australian musician and journalist. Shedden was born in Lanark, Scotland. He worked for the local newspaper in his home town of Wishaw in North Lanarkshire while playing with his first band, The Jolt. In 1982 he was invited to play in Europe with the Australian band the Saints and drummed with them periodically through the 1980s. as well as Snakes of Shake and Summerhill.Strong, Martin C. The Saints (Australian Band)
The Saints were an Australian rock band, originating in Brisbane, Queensland in 1973. The band was founded by Chris Bailey (singer-songwriter, later guitarist), Ivor Hay (drummer), and Ed Kuepper (guitarist-songwriter). They were initially labeled a punk band because, like American punk rock band the Ramones, the Saints were employing the fast tempos, raucous vocals and "buzzsaw" guitar that characterised early punk rock – although this only reflects a portion of their overall sound. With their debut single " (I'm) Stranded" in September 1976, they became the first punk band outside the US to release a record, ahead of better-known acts the Damned, the Sex Pistols and the Clash. Giant Sand
Giant Sand is an American musical group from Tucson, Arizona, United States. Its most constant member is singer-songwriter Howe Gelb. The group started as Giant Sandworms in the late 1970s post-punk and paisley underground scenes. They later shortened their name and developed an idiosyncratic sound rooted in alternative country, but touching on a wide range of other styles and featuring Gelb's beatnik-influenced vocals and songwriting. Since about 2012, they have also performed as Giant Giant Sand when featuring a larger ensemble than their traditional four to six musicians. In popular music, a cover version, cover song, remake, revival, or simply cover, is a new performance or recording by a musician other than the original performer or composer of the song. Originally, it referred to a version of a song released around the same time as the original in order to compete with it. Now, it refers to any subsequent version performed after the original. "Wild Horses" is a song written by the British rock band the Rolling Stones from their 1971 album ''Sticky Fingers'' although it was first released in 1970 by the Flying Burrito Brothers as the Stones didn't think the demo was worth recording fully.
