Sultan Ibrahim Jamek Mosque
Sultan Ibrahim Jamek Mosque ( ms, Masjid Jamek Sultan Ibrahim) is a historical mosque in Muar Town, Johor, Malaysia. It is situated along Jalan Petri, close to the mouth of Muar River. History The first Muar Jamek Mosque was completed in 1887. In the 1920s, a committee was formed to consider building a new Jamek mosque for Muar. Following a bid to raise funds from the public, the committee in charge of building the new mosque successfully raised RM10,000 for the purpose. The committee then put forward the people's aspiration to the Sultan and obtained the royal consent. In 1925, works to construct Sultan Ibrahim Jamek Mosque began. Five years later, in 1930, the mosque was completed and was officially opened by Johor's Dato' Menteri Besar, Dato Mustafa bin Jaafar. Muar (town)
Muar ( Jawi: موار) or Bandar Maharani, is a historical town and the capital of Muar District, Johor, Malaysia. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Malaysia to be visited and explored for its food, coffee and historical prewar buildings. It was recently declared as the royal town of Johor by Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar and is the fourth largest urban area (after Johor Bahru, Batu Pahat and Kluang) in Johor. Muar River
The Muar River ( ms, Sungai Muar) is a river which flows through the states of Johor, Negeri Sembilan and Pahang in Malaysia. The river also flows through Muar town. History The Muar River formed part of the '' Penarikan'', an ancient overland trade route, which was a short-cut from the west to the east coast of the Malay Peninsula. Course The source of the Muar River is located in Talang, Kuala Pilah District, Negeri Sembilan, deep in the Titiwangsa Range. It was impounded by the Talang Dam, becoming Talang Lake, to meet the needs of water supply in Kuala Pilah and the entire state. From the dam, the river then flows south into the town centre and Juasseh within the same district, the west side of Bahau and Rompin in Jempol District and Pasir Besar in Tampin District, and flows all the way into the border with Johor. The Muar District is a district in Johor, Malaysia. Muar is located at the mouth of the Muar River, on the coast of the Straits of Malacca. The Muar District covers , with a population of 233,779 (2010). History The district was formerly divided administratively into Bandar Maharani municipality and Tangkak township.
