Nipissing District is a district in Northeastern Ontario in the Canadian province of Ontario. It was created in 1858. The district seat is North Bay. In 2016, the population was 83,150. The land area is ; the population density was , making it one of the most densely populated districts in northern Ontario. Sturgeon Falls, Ontario
West Nipissing is a municipality in Northeastern Ontario, Canada, on Lake Nipissing in the Nipissing District. It was formed on January 1, 1999, with the amalgamation of seventeen and a half former town, villages, townships and unorganized communities. It is the most bilingual community in Ontario, with 73.4% of its population fluent in both English and French. Communities The primary administrative and commercial centre of West Nipissing is the community of Sturgeon Falls, which is situated on the Sturgeon River, north of Lake Nipissing and west of North Bay on Highway 17, part of the Trans-Canada Highway. Roughly half the population of West Nipissing lives in Sturgeon Falls. Field is located on Highway 64, approximately north of Sturgeon Falls. Due to population growth, the district of Nipissing (provincial electoral district), Nipissing was divided into Nipissing West and Nipissing East for the 1902 Ontario general election, 1902 election. By 1908, however, the town of Greater Sudbury, Sudbury had grown enough to warrant its own electoral district. Sudbury (provincial Electoral District)
Sudbury is a provincial electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that has been represented in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario since 1908. It is one of the two districts serving the city of Greater Sudbury. Its population in 2001 was 89,443. Sudbury was given its own riding provincially in the 1908 election, when the former riding of Nipissing West was divided into Sudbury and Sturgeon Falls. It initially included a large portion of the Sudbury District; in 1952, the boundaries were narrowed significantly to include only the city of Sudbury, the geographic township of McKim and the town of Copper Cliff. The rest of the original Sudbury riding was incorporated into the new riding of Nickel Belt. The riding of Sudbury East was additionally created in 1967. The 1908 Ontario general election was the 12th general election held in the Province of Ontario, Canada. It was held on June 8, 1908, to elect the 106 Members of the 12th Legislative Assembly of Ontario ("MLAs"). The Ontario Progressive Conservative Party, Ontario Conservative Party, led by Sir James P. Whitney, was elected for a second term in government, increasing its majority in the Legislature significantly. The Ontario Liberal Party, led by Alexander Grant MacKay, continued to lose seats. Allan Studholme became the province's first Labour Party of Canada, Labour MLA as the result of a 1906 Hamilton East (provincial electoral district), Hamilton East by-election. Nipissing is a provincial electoral district in the Canadian province of Ontario, which elects one member to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. It is located in the northeastern part of Ontario, centred on the city of North Bay. History The district was first contested in the 1890 election, but was divided into the separate districts of Nipissing East and Nipissing West for the 1902 election. By 1908, however, demographic changes resulted in Nipissing West being divided into two new districts, Sudbury and Sturgeon Falls, and the single riding of Nipissing was thus reconstituted and has been represented consistently in the Legislative Assembly ever since.
