Strathblane Country House
Strathblane Country House is a late Victorian estate house near the village of Strathblane. It was built in 1874 as a mansion houseYoung, Andrew ''The Country Club Hotel'' in The Glasgow Herald 19 January 1974 for Robert Jameson of the law firm Jameson, Maclae & Baird (which today operates under the name Morton Fraser). Back then the building was known as Ardunan House, taking its name from nearby Loch Ardinning (of which ''Ardunan'' and ''Ardinan'' – from Gaelic Gaelic is an adjective that means "pertaining to the Gaels". Strathblane
Strathblane ( gd, Strath Bhlàthain, ) is a village and parish in the registration county of Stirlingshire, situated in the southwestern part of the Stirling council area, in central Scotland. It lies at the foothills of the Campsie Fells and the Kilpatrick Hills on the Blane Water, north of Glasgow, east-southeast of Dumbarton, and southwest of Stirling. Strathblane is a dormitory village for Greater Glasgow, and has a total resident population of 1,811. Historically, Strathblane was the name of a parish in Stirlingshire which comprised three villages: Edenkill, Netherton and Mugdock. Mugdock was the ancient seat of the Earls of Lennox, and to the east of Strathblane lies the town of Lennoxtown. Blanefield is a settlement contiguous with Strathblane's northwestern fringe. Estate houses in Scotland or Scottish country houses, are large houses usually on landed estates in Scotland. They were built from the sixteenth century, after defensive castles began to be replaced by more comfortable residences for royalty, nobility and local lairds. The origins of Scottish estate houses are in aristocratic emulation of the extensive building and rebuilding of royal residences, beginning with Linlithgow, under the influence of Renaissance architecture. In the 1560s the unique Scottish style of the Scots baronial emerged, which combined features from medieval castles, tower houses, and peel towers with Renaissance plans, in houses designed primarily for residence rather than defence. Loch Ardinning
Loch Ardinning ( Scottish Gaelic: Loch Àird Dùnain) is a body of freshwater in the district of Stirling in Scotland, lying to the south of the village of Strathblane near the western end of the Campsies. The loch was increased in size by the construction of a dam in 1796; the level was further raised in 1840, and partially rebuilt in 1991. As its current extent, it covers 10 hectares. Loch Ardinning Reserve The loch forms part of the Loch Ardinning Reserve, which is owned and managed by the Scottish Wildlife Trust. The reserve was established in 1988, and covers 148 hectares. It is classified as a Category IV protected area by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. The reserve covers the woodland surrounding the loch, and Muirhouse Muir. Scottish Gaelic
Scottish Gaelic ( gd, Gàidhlig ), also known as Scots Gaelic and Gaelic, is a Goidelic language (in the Celtic branch of the Indo-European language family) native to the Gaels of Scotland. As a Goidelic language, Scottish Gaelic, as well as both Irish and Manx, developed out of Old Irish. It became a distinct spoken language sometime in the 13th century in the Middle Irish period, although a common literary language was shared by the Gaels of both Ireland and Scotland until well into the 17th century. Most of modern Scotland was once Gaelic-speaking, as evidenced especially by Gaelic-language place names. In the 2011 census of Scotland, 57,375 people (1.1% of the Scottish population aged over 3 years old) reported being able to speak Gaelic, 1,275 fewer than in 2001. Peter Dougan Capaldi (; born 14 April 1958) is a Scottish actor, director, writer and musician. River City
''River City'' is a Scottish television soap opera that was first broadcast on BBC One Scotland on 24 September 2002. ''River City'' follows the lives of the people who live and work in the fictional district of Shieldinch. In November 2017, a short crossover episode of the show was made for '' Children in Need'' and featured several of the show's characters meeting characters from Scottish sitcom ''Scot Squad''. In March 2020, production of ''River City'' was halted due to the COVID–19 pandemic, and filming recommenced in August 2020.
