Steven Tiley
Steven John Tiley (born 11 September 1982) is an English professional golfer. Tiley was born in Canterbury. He was assisted by College Prospects of America and attended Georgia State University and turned professional in 2007. Having failed to reach the final stage of the European Tour qualifying school, he gained his card on the Asian Tour. He had three top 10 finishes during his first season, but finished just outside the top 65 on the Order of Merit that was required to retain his playing status. Tiley began the 2009 season on the Jamega Tour, a UK-based developmental tour. After a strong start, winning three tournaments, he started to play in some events on the second tier Challenge Tour. Later in the year he won the Egyptian Open, a Challenge Tour specially approved tournament prior to it becoming a full tour event in 2010. Since 2010 Tiley has played mainly on the Challenge Tour. The Open Championship
The Open Championship, often referred to as The Open or the British Open, is the oldest golf tournament in the world, and one of the most prestigious. Founded in 1860, it was originally held annually at Prestwick Golf Club in Scotland. Later the venue rotated between a select group of coastal links golf courses in the United Kingdom. It is organised by the R&A. The Open is one of the four men's major golf tournaments, the others being the Masters Tournament, the PGA Championship and the U.S. Open. The 2005 Palmer Cup was held on June 8–9, 2005 on the Irish Course, Whistling Straits, Haven, Wisconsin. The United States won 14 to 10. Format On Wednesday, there were four matches of four-ball in the morning, followed by eight singles matches in the afternoon. Four foursomes matches were played on the Thursday morning with a further eight singles in the afternoon. In all, 24 matches were played. Each of the 24 matches was worth one point in the larger team competition. If a match was all square after the 18th hole, each side earned half a point toward their team total. Palmer Cup
The Arnold Palmer Cup is an annual team golf competition for college/university golfers. From 2018 it has been contested between a United States team and an International team representing the rest of the world. The teams consist of 12 men and 12 women. The teams are selected on the basis of nationality, not according to the location of the players' universities. The 2023 event will be held from June 10 to 12 at Laurel Valley Golf Club, near Ligonier, Pennsylvania. History From its foundation in 1997 until 2017 the event was only contested by men. From 1997 until 2002 the United States played Great Britain & Ireland while from 2003 to 2017 the United States played a European team. The 2005 European Amateur Team Championship took place 28 June – 2 July at Hillside Golf Club in Southport, England. It was the 24th men's golf European Amateur Team Championship. Venue The club was founded in 1911. The course, located in Southport, 20 kilometres north of the city center of Liverpool, England, is a links course, with all the holes being between and on mainly large dunes and local indigenous pinewoods, typical of the area. It is physically close to both the Royal Birkdale Golf Club, near its south-western boundaries, and to the Southport and Ainsdale Golf Club.
