Steven Greenberg (musician)
Steven Greenberg (born October 24, 1950) is an American musician, record producer and the owner of the independent label October Records. He is best known for his band Lipps Inc.'s 1980 hit song "Funkytown" (which was also a hit for Australian band Pseudo Echo). Career Greenberg was born in Saint Paul, Minnesota, United States. In his twenties, Greenberg was a multi-instrumentalist who played in several bands. He had been trying for some time to secure a production deal, and he drew the interest of the Casablanca label with a disco track called " Rock It," which became a hit locally. Released nationally in late 1979, "Rock It" made it into the Top 20 on the Billboard Disco Charts. Casablanca asked Greenberg for a full album, so he gathered several session players, among them guitarists David Rivkin and Tom Riopelle; keyboardist Ivan Rafowitz; synth and vocoder programmer Roger Dumas (not to be confused with French actor Roger Dumas); and bassist Terry Grant. How Long (Ace Song)
"How Long" is the debut single by the English band Ace, from their 1974 debut album ''Five-A-Side''. It reached No. 3 in the US and Canadian charts, and No. 20 on the UK Singles Chart. In a 1981 issue of ''Smash Hits'', Phil Collins named the song as one of his top 10 favourites, describing it as a "classic single". Background Although widely interpreted as being about adultery, the song was in fact composed by lead singer Paul Carrack upon discovering that bassist Terry ("Tex") Comer had been secretly working with the Sutherland Brothers and Quiver. The ‘friends with their fancy persuasions’ cited in the lyrics are said to be in reference to the Sutherland Brothers and Quiver's management. The guitar solo is by lead guitarist Phil Harris. Steve Greenberg (record Producer)
Steve Greenberg is an American record producer currently heading the S-Curve Records label. He also manages the pop band AJR and is the host/writer of the podcast "Speed of Sound". He is noted for "discovering" popular musical acts such as Hanson, Baha Men, Jonas Brothers, Joss Stone and AJR. He received a 2000 Grammy Award in the "Best Dance Recording" category as a producer of "Who Let the Dogs Out?" by Baha Men. Greenberg also won a 2019 Grammy Award in the "Best Album Notes" category for his essay featured in the "Stax '68: A Memphis Story" boxed set. From 2005 to 2006, he served as the president of Columbia Records, where he produced the debut album by the Jonas Brothers.
