Steve Nye
Steve Nye is an English music producer for several artists. Career Nye started out as a tape op at AIR Studios in London in 1971, where producer Rupert Hine discovered him. There he got into engineering (and later producing) many well-known artists in the music industry, including Stevie Wonder, Roxy Music and Frank Zappa. His better known work includes artists such as Bryan Ferry ('' In Your Mind'' in 1977), Penguin Cafe Orchestra, XTC (''Mummer'' in 1983), Japan ('' Tin Drum'' in 1981), David Sylvian (''Brilliant Trees'' in 1984, '' Gone to Earth'' in 1986, ''Secrets of the Beehive'' in 1987), Clannad, TM Network, Scary Thieves (''Scary Thieves'' in 1984) and Frank Zappa (''Joe's Garage''). ''Tin Drum'' is the fifth and final studio album by English band Japan, released in November 1981 by record label Virgin. It peaked at No. 12 on the UK charts, and featured the top 5 single " Ghosts". It has received acclaim as the band's best and most original work. Content ''Tin Drum'' continued the band's now-established mix of electronic elements with traditional instrumentation, but leans far more towards Far Eastern influences than any of their previous albums. Lead guitarist Rob Dean had departed in May 1981 and vocalist/songwriter/second guitarist David Sylvian had taken on his duties, which had been very greatly reduced by the band's change of musical direction. Scary Thieves
Scary Thieves were a short-lived English 1980s new wave band, best known for the hits "Tell Me Girl" and "The Waiting Game". Both songs are included on the ''Hardest Hits'' compilations, which focus on obscure new wave/synth bands that have little to big cult followings. History Scary Thieves were formed by Phil Manikiza (vocals) and Chris Youdell (keyboards) in 1983. They auditioned Clive Parker-Sharp (born Clive Parker) (drums) in a small rehearsal room in Camden Town, London, and later Ralph St. Rose (guitar). Parker was previously of bands Spizzenergi/Athletico Spizz '80 ( Rough Trade/A&M Records) and Big Country. Ralph St. Rose was previously lead guitar and co-founder of the French new wave band Notre-Dame. TM Network
TM Network is a Japanese rock/new wave/pop musical band, made up by Tetsuya Komuro (keyboardist), Takashi Utsunomiya (vocalist) and Naoto Kine (guitarist). They became popular in Japan as the "futuristic pop songs with synthesizer" after the release of their 1987 single "Get Wild" Tetsuya Komuro became a famous producer of dance-oriented J-pop singers in 1990s, and as such they are considered a prototype of the J-pop genre. However, their 2000 album ''Major Turn-Round'' was influenced by progressive rock. Clannad () is an Irish band formed in 1970 in Gweedore, County Donegal by siblings Ciarán, Pól Brennan, Pól, and Moya Brennan and their twin uncles The Duggans, Noel and Pádraig Duggan. ''Secrets of the Beehive'' is a solo album by British singer-songwriter David Sylvian and it was released on 19 October 1987 (in Europe, UK and America). The album peaked at no.37 in the UK album chart. The album was released in Japan on 21 November 1987. Background The entire album was quickly written in about two inspired weeks shortly after Sylvian's extensive press tour for '' Gone to Earth'', but for the recording Sylvian ran out of budget and was unable to complete the album the way he envisioned it. Although Sylvian said he liked the songs on the album, he described it as a failure because the centerpiece of the album was missing. The missing piece was the song "''Ride''", which was later completed and finally released 2000 on the compilation album "Everything and Nothing". ''Gone to Earth'' is the second studio album by British singer-songwriter David Sylvian, released on 13 September 1986 on Virgin Records. A double album, ''Gone to Earth'' is the follow-up to his debut record, '' Brilliant Trees'', and peaked at No. 24 in the UK Albums Chart. History The album is a two-record set featuring one record of experimental rock songs with vocals and one consisting entirely of ambient instrumental tracks. Guest artists include Robert Fripp (who co-wrote three songs) and Bill Nelson (who co-wrote one). David Sylvian
David Sylvian (born David Alan Batt, 23 February 1958) is an English musician, singer and songwriter who came to prominence in the late 1970s as frontman and principal songwriter of the band Japan. The band's androgynous look and increasingly electronic sound made them an important influence on the UK's early-1980s New Romantic scene. Following their break-up, Sylvian embarked on a solo career with his debut album ''Brilliant Trees'' (1984).
