Stephen J. Hay
Stephen John Hay (October 5, 1864 – February 29, 1916) was the first mayor of Dallas, Texas under the commission form of government. Biography Born in Griffin, Georgia, Hay left for Atlanta as a young man to work in a department store and take business classes at night. At the age of 23 he moved to Dallas and was elected to his first public office in 1899 as a member of the school board. He served four terms and two years as its president before resigning in 1907 to run for Mayor of Dallas. Hay served two terms as mayor from 1907 to 1911. His largest accomplishments were demonstrating that a commission form of city government could work well and launching the White Rock Reservoir plan. After leaving office he served as president of the Dallas Trust and Savings Bank, director of The Texas Paper Company, and on the City Health Board. Griffin, Georgia
Griffin is a city in and the county seat of Spalding County, Georgia. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 23,478. Griffin was founded in 1840 and named for landowner Col. Lewis Lawrence Griffin. Griffin Technical College was located in Griffin from 1963 and a branch of Southern Crescent Technical College is in Griffin. White Rock Lake
White Rock Lake is a reservoir located in north-east Dallas, Texas (United States). The lake was formed by damming White Rock Creek, which today widens into the lake before continuing south out of the spillway and emptying into the Trinity River. The lake covers 1,254 acres (5.1 km2) in the east Dallas community. History Before it was a lake, White Rock Lake was a collection of farms owned by the Daniel and Cox families. The first record of the Daniel family farm is in the Family Bible of Thomas Walker Daniel. He and his wife Frances Herndon Daniel seem to have moved to the White Rock area in the late 1830s and early 1840s. Daniel's son had a good friend during the civil war named Cox.
