Lene Nielsen (born 31 August 1986 in Hvidovre) is a Danish curling, curler. She was the skip of the 2014 Danish Olympic Curling Team. Career Nielsen played in her first international events in 2004, as an alternate for the Madeleine Dupont rink. Even though she was an alternate, she played many games. At the 2004 World Junior Curling Championships, the team finished 6th and at the 2004 Ford World Women's Curling Championship they finished in 8th. They finished in 8th place at the 2004 European Curling Championships. Later that season, Nielsen was promoted to third on the team and they won a silver medal at the 2005 European Youth Olympic Winter Festival. She then played second on the team at the 2005 World Junior Curling Championships, where the rink finished 4th. At the 2005 World Women's Curling Championship, the rink finished in 10th. Ulrik Schmidt (born 19 August 1962) is a Denmark, Danish curling, curler. He currently skips the Danish national team, while he throws third stones. Schmidt's first international appearance was at the 1984 World Junior Curling Championships, where he skipped the Danish team to a 9th-place finish. He was then picked up by Sören Bang to play lead at the 1987 European Curling Championships, placing fourth. He was the team's alternate at the 1991 Euros, skipped by Gert Larsen, placing 6th. Schmidt skipped his own team beginning in 1996. That season, he finished 5th at the European Championships and 6th at the 1997 Ford World Men's Curling Championship. Later that year, he won a silver medal at the 1997 European Championships, where he lost to Germany (skipped by Andy Kapp) in the final. The Danish Junior Curling Championships ( da, Junior DM Herrer, Junior DM Damer) are the national championships of men's and women's junior curling teams in Denmark. Junior level curlers must be under the age of 21. The championships have been held annually since 1976 for junior men and since 1983 for junior women.
