''Static Anonymity'' is an EP released by the Canadian band Metric in 2001. The back cover of the album states that "This handmade collection of rare songs is only available at Metric performances or at www.ilovemetric.com and is not intended for retail sale". Though it states that one can buy the album via the band's official website, this is no longer true. Metric is a Canadian rock band founded in 1998 in Toronto, Ontario. The band consists of Emily Haines (lead vocals, synthesizers, guitar, tambourine, harmonica, piano), James Shaw (guitar, synthesizers, theremin, backing vocals), Joshua Winstead (bass, synthesizers, backing vocals) and Joules Scott-Key (drums, percussion). The band started in 1998 as a duo formed by Haines and Shaw with the name "Mainstream". After releasing an EP titled '' Mainstream EP'', they changed the band's name to Metric. The band's first studio album, ''Old World Underground, Where Are You Now?'', was released in 2003. Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". Restless Records
Restless Records is a record label that was started in El Segundo, California in 1986 by Enigma Records and primarily released alternative, metal, and punk records. Restless also licensed and released records from Bar/None Records, Metal Blade Records and Mute Records. Restless also had a fully owned subsidiary, Pink Dust Records. In 1991 Restless and a number of Enigma Records titles were acquired by Bill Hein and Joe Regis and re-launched in Hollywood, California. Grow Up And Blow Away
''Grow Up and Blow Away'' is the third studio album by the Canadian indie rock band Metric. The album was recorded in 2001, but its release was delayed for years due to their record label, Restless Records, being purchased by Rykodisc. As the years passed, the band's sound changed to the point where they no longer felt the album would be what the fans expected to hear, so Metric recorded a completely new album, ''Old World Underground, Where Are You Now?'', and released that instead. Last Gang Records later purchased the rights to the album and released it on June 26, 2007. Compared with the 2001 version, the songs "London Halflife" and "Soft Rock Star" (Jimmy vs. Joe mix) from the 2001 EP ''Static Anonymity'' were added. "Torture Me", "Fanfare", and "Parkdale" were removed. Also, the order of some songs was changed and other songs (like the title track and "Rock Me Now") were slightly re-worked.
