State Route 96 (SR 96) is an east–west and north–south highway in Middle Tennessee. The road begins in Dickson and ends in Granville. The current length is . Along its path it goes through 10 counties. Locals mostly refer to it as Highway 96. SR 96 changes cardinal directions from East–West to North–South in DeKalb County after an unsigned concurrency with U.S. 70. Route description Dickson County SR 96 begins as a primary highway in Dickson County in Dickson at an intersection with US 70/ SR 1. It then goes southeast, leaving Dickson, before coming to an intersection with SR 47 in Burns. It then curves to the east and parallels I-40, passing just north of the I-40/I-840 interchange, before having an interchange with I-40 (Exit 182) just west of Fairview, just after crossing into Williamson County. Putnam County is a county located in the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2020 census, the population was 79,854. Its county seat is Cookeville. Putnam County is part of the Cookeville, TN Micropolitan Statistical Area. The Natchez Trace Parkway Bridge is a concrete double arch bridge located in Williamson County, Tennessee, from the northern terminus of the Natchez Trace Parkway. It is long and carries the two-lane Natchez Trace Parkway over State Route 96 and a heavily wooded valley. Background The bridge, also known as the Natchez Trace Parkway Arches, is the first segmentally constructed concrete arch bridge in the United States. The arches comprise 122 hollow box segments precast in nearby Franklin, each of which was about long and weighed between 29 and 45 short tons. The deck consists of 196 precast post-tensioned trapezoidal box girder segments, each typically long. The sections atop the crown of the arch are deep. The foundations and piers of the bridge were cast in place. The long main span is symmetrical, while the long second arch is not, due to the slope of the valley at the southern end of the bridge. The Highland Rim is a geographic term for the area in Tennessee surrounding the Central Basin. Nashville is largely surrounded by higher terrain in all directions. Geologically, the Central Basin is a dome. The Highland Rim is a cuesta surrounding the basin, and the border where the difference in elevation is sharply pronounced is an escarpment. Nashville is located in the northwestern corner of the basin. State Route 100 (SR 100) is a west–east state highway in both West Tennessee and Middle Tennessee that connects Whiteville with Nashville. It is long. Route description Hardeman County SR 100 begins as a primary highway in West Tennessee in Hardeman County at an intersection with US 64/SR 15 in Whiteville. SR 47 is generally traversed only in part; the two termini are in fact only about eight miles (13 km) distant from each other, and are impracticable as a route from end-to-end, as the distance the highway runs is over twice this long.
