State Route 47 (SR 47) is a Tennessee State Highway located entirely within Dickson County. SR 47 is generally traversed only in part; the two termini are in fact only about eight miles (13 km) distant from each other, and are impracticable as a route from end-to-end, as the distance the highway runs is over twice this long. Route description State Route 47 begins as a secondary highway at an intersection with State Route 48 slightly southeast of downtown Dickson near the Fairgrounds. In the Dickson city limits, it is known as East Walnut Street. Outside of Dickson, the road runs east through the communities of Colesburg and Burns. From Burns it runs east past the southern entrance to Montgomery Bell State Park in the Bakersworks community and then onto an intersection with U.S. Route 70 in western White Bluff. White Bluff is a town in Dickson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 3,862 at the 2020 census and 3,206 at the 2010 census. The community name derives from the White Bluff Iron Forge. History A fort was constructed at White Bluff in 1806, and an iron forge shortly afterward. Dickson County is a county located in the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2020 census, the population was 54,315. Its county seat is Charlotte. Dickson County is part of the Nashville-Davidson–Murfreesboro–Franklin, TN Metropolitan Statistical Area. Dickson County is home to Tennessee's oldest courthouse in continuous use, built in 1835. State Route 48 (Tennessee)
State Route 48 (SR 48) is a long north–south state highway in Middle Tennessee. It traverses six counties, and it is long. Route description Wayne, Perry, and Lewis Counties SR 48 begins as a primary state route in far northern Wayne County at a junction with SR 13. Then it travels through the southeastern corner of Perry County before entering Lewis County to intersect SR 20, and then U.S. Route 412 (US 412) and SR 99 in Hohenwald. After Hohenwald, SR 48 then goes due north to Hickman County. Hickman County SR 48 then runs concurrently with SR 100 near the Beaver Dam Creek Wildlife Management Area. Montgomery Bell
Montgomery Bell (January 3, 1769, Chester County, Pennsylvania – April 1, 1855, Dickson County, Tennessee) was a manufacturing entrepreneur who was crucial to the economic development of early Middle Tennessee. He was known as the "Iron Master of the Harpeth" and the "Iron Master of Middle Tennessee". Today he is remembered mostly for founding Montgomery Bell Academy, one of the largest private non-sectarian all-boys high schools in the United States. Early life Montgomery Bell was born on January 3, 1769 in Chester County, Pennsylvania. His father, John Bell, was an Irish emigrant to the United States. His mother was Mary Patterson. He was of Scotch-Irish descent on both sides. Bell served a three-year apprenticeship to a tanner and later became a hatmaker with an older brother.
