State Route 64 (SR 64) is an east–west state highway entirely within Lauderdale County in the northwest portion of the U.S. state of Alabama. The western terminus of the highway is at an intersection with U.S. Route 43 (US 43) near Green Hill, an unincorporated community south of the Tennessee state line. The eastern terminus of the highway is at an intersection with SR 207 north of Anderson. Route description SR 64 travels along a two-lane roadway as it travels through northern Lauderdale County. Minor Hill, Tennessee
Minor Hill is a city in Giles County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 537 at the 2010 census. History Minor Hill is named for Joseph Minor, an early settler in the area. A later owner of the Minor tract donated part of it for the establishment of a school, church, and cemetery in the mid-19th century. Pulaski, Tennessee
Pulaski is a city in and the county seat of Giles County, which is located on the central-southern border of Tennessee, United States. The population was 8,397 at the 2020 census. It was named after Casimir Pulaski, a noted Polish-born soldier on the patriots side in the American Revolutionary War. During the Civil War, after the Union took control of Tennessee in 1862, thousands of African Americans left plantations and farms to join their lines for refuge. The Army set up a contraband camp in Pulaski to help house the freedmen and their families, feed them, and put them to work. In addition, education classes were started. Shortly after the war ended, in late 1865, Pulaski was the site of Confederate veterans organizing the first chapter of what became known as the Ku Klux Klan, a secret, white supremacist group. Wheeler Dam
Wheeler Dam is a hydroelectric dam on the Tennessee River between Lauderdale County and Lawrence County in Alabama. It is one of nine dams on the river owned and operated by the Tennessee Valley Authority, which built the dam in the mid-1930s as part of a New Deal-era initiative to improve navigation on the river and bring flood control and economic development to the region. The dam impounds the Wheeler Lake of and its tailwaters feed into Wilson Lake. Wheeler Dam is named for Civil War general and U.S. Congressman Joseph Wheeler. Loretto, Tennessee
Loretto is a city in Lawrence County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,714 at the 2010 census, and 1,739 at the 2020 census. History Loretto began as a stagecoach station known as "Glen Rock" in the early 19th century. In 1870, a number of German Catholic immigrants settled in the Loretto area, and a new city was established shortly afterward. Some sources suggest the name "Loretto" was inspired by the Loreto region in Italy, while others say the city was named for a sainted nun. The congregation the immigrants formed, the Sacred Heart Church of Jesus, still exists, and their church (built in 1912) is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
