''State of Decay'' is an action-adventure, survival horror, and stealth game developed by Undead Labs and published by Microsoft Studios. It places emphasis on how the player's leaderships skills fare against an onslaught of problems, such as diminishing survival resources, group trust and morale, zombie extermination, base defenses, and people's lives. The game combines elements of shooters, stealth, role-playing and strategy games and the game challenges players to survive by exploring, scavenging, and fighting the undead. It was released for the Xbox 360 on June 5, 2013, and was met with positive reviews. A Microsoft Windows version was released on September 20, 2013, via Steam's Early Access, with a release following on November 5, 2013. Undead Labs LLC is an American video game developer based in Seattle, Washington. The company was founded in November 2009 by Jeff Strain and developed the '' State of Decay'' series. In 2018, Undead Labs became part of Microsoft Studios (now known as Xbox Game Studios). History Undead Labs was founded on November 23, 2009, by Jeff Strain, with the sole focus on zombie-based games. ''State of Decay 2'' is a survival video game developed by Undead Labs and published by Xbox Game Studios. The game is a followup to '' State of Decay'' and was released for Windows and Xbox One on May 22, 2018. Like its predecessor, players are required to build a community, manage resources and survive against the horde of zombies. ''State of Decay 2'' received mixed reviews from critics, who praised its difficulty, musical score and combat, but criticized the technical issues and the lack of depth in the survival and management mechanics. Metacritic is a website that aggregates reviews of films, TV shows, music albums, video games and formerly, books. For each product, the scores from each review are averaged (a weighted average). Metacritic was created by Jason Dietz, Marc Doyle, and Julie Doyle Roberts in 1999. The site provides an excerpt from each review and hyperlinks to its source. A color of green, yellow or red summarizes the critics' recommendations. It is regarded as the foremost online review aggregation site for the video game industry. Zombie apocalypse is a genre of fiction in which society collapses due to overwhelming swarms of zombies. Typically only a few individuals or small bands of survivors are left living.
