Stars Forever
''Stars Forever'' is the thirteenth studio album by Scottish musician Momus, released by Le Grand Magistery in 1999. The album has been described as part of Momus's "analog-baroque" phase. Momus wrote thirty songs for ''Stars Forever'', one about every person or group who commissioned a song at the price of $1,000. The funds raised went towards the costs incurred from a lawsuit against Momus by Wendy Carlos. "Patrons" include fellow musicians The Minus 5 and Keigo Oyamada, artist Jeff Koons, retail store Other Music, and record label Minty Fresh. Nicholas "Nick" Currie (born 11 February 1960), more popularly known under the artist name Momus (after the Momus, Greek god of mockery), is a Scotland, Scottish musician and writer. For over forty years he has been releasing albums on labels in the United Kingdom, the United States, and Japan. In his lyrics and his other writing he makes use of continental philosophy, and has built up a personal world he says is "dominated by values like diversity, orientalism, and a respect for otherness". Career Musical Nicholas Currie's musical career began in 1981, with his band The Happy Family (band), The Happy Family, featuring ex-members of Josef K (band), Josef K, who made a single and a concept album ''The Man on Your Street: Songs of the Dictator Hall'' on hip UK indie label 4AD. Jack Curtis Dubowsky is an American composer and author who has composed music for film, chorus, and concert performance. His music has been performed by the San Francisco Choral Artists, the Lesbian/Gay Chorus of San Francisco, the Snopea Chamber Ensemble, the Organic Sound Experiment, and others. He has received grants from Meet the Composer (1998), the Zellerbach Family Fund (1997), and the Friends of the San Francisco Public Library (1997), and a "Special Recognition of a Score" jury award from the Fire Island Gay and Lesbian Film Festival (2002) for his work on the film '' Under One Roof''. Other Music was a music retail store that sold CDs, records and cassettes online and at their brick-and-mortar location in the Noho neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. The store specialized in the sale of closely curated underground, rare and experimental music. The physical store was located at 15 E 4th St, New York, NY 10003 from 1995 to June 2016. In January 2007, Other Music announced that it planned to sell high-quality MP3 files for download without using any type of digital rights management. This announcement follows similar moves made by other small online music retailers, including United Kingdom-based Rough Trade, New York-based Insound and New York-based Anthology Recordings. The announcement also coincided with the closing of Tower Records' Lower Manhattan location. Jeffrey Lynn Koons (; born January 21, 1955) is an American artist recognized for his work dealing with popular culture and his sculptures depicting everyday objects, including balloon animals produced in stainless steel with mirror- finish surfaces. , also known by his moniker , is a Japanese musician and producer who co-founded Flipper's Guitar, an influential Shibuya-kei band, and subsequently embarked on a solo career. In 1997, he released the album '' Fantasma'', which landed him praise from American music critics, who called him a "modern-day Brian Wilson" or the "Japanese Beck". In 2007, ''Rolling Stone Japan'' named two of Oyamada's albums amongst the "100 Greatest Japanese Rock Albums of All Time", with ''Fantasma'' ranking in 10th place and ''Camera Talk'' by Flipper's Guitar ranking in 35th place. The Minus 5
The Minus 5 is an American pop rock band headed by musician Scott McCaughey of Young Fresh Fellows, often in partnership with R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck. Band history McCaughey formed the band in 1993 as a side project with Buck, Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow of The Posies. Buck had moved to the Seattle area in 1992; the other principals were longtime fixtures of the Seattle music scene. The four musicians had numerous personal and professional connections: both the Posies and McCaughey's The Young Fresh Fellows had recorded at Conrad Uno's Egg Studios and released albums on Uno's PopLlama Records label. Wendy Carlos
Wendy Carlos (born Walter Carlos, November 14, 1939) is an American musician and composer best known for her electronic music and film scores. Born and raised in Rhode Island, Carlos studied physics and music at Brown University before moving to New York City in 1962 to study music composition at Columbia University. Studying and working with various electronic musicians and technicians at the city's Columbia-Princeton Electronic Music Center, she helped in the development of the Moog synthesizer, Robert Moog's first commercially available keyboard instrument. Carlos came to prominence with ''Switched-On Bach'' (1968), an album of music by Johann Sebastian Bach performed on a Moog synthesizer, which helped popularize its use in the 1970s and won her three Grammy Awards.
