Jack Curtis Dubowsky
Jack Curtis Dubowsky is an American composer and author who has composed music for film, chorus, and concert performance. His music has been performed by the San Francisco Choral Artists, the Lesbian/Gay Chorus of San Francisco, the Snopea Chamber Ensemble, the Organic Sound Experiment, and others. He has received grants from Meet the Composer (1998), the Zellerbach Family Fund (1997), and the Friends of the San Francisco Public Library (1997), and a "Special Recognition of a Score" jury award from the Fire Island Gay and Lesbian Film Festival (2002) for his work on the film '' Under One Roof''. Dubowsky works through his music house, De Stijl Music. Lesbian/Gay Chorus Of San Francisco
The Queer Chorus of San Francisco (QCSF) was founded in 1980 by Jon Reed Sims (1947–1984).Sims also founded the San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band and San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus. Initially known as the San Francisco Lesbian and Gay Men’s Community Chorus, it was the world's first choral organization to use both "lesbian" and " gay" in its name, Within a few years, the chorus changed its name to Lesbian/Gay Chorus of San Francisco (LGCSF). In March 2022, by a vote of its membership, the group changed its name to "The Queer Chorus of San Francisco". The Queer Chorus of San Francisco is dedicated to building and enriching its communities through the universal language of music. New Music USA is a new music organization formed by the merging of the American Music Center with Meet The Composer on November 8, 2011. The new organization retains the granting programs of the two former organizations as well as two media programs originally created at the American Music Center: NewMusicBox and Counterstream Radio. American Music Center The American Music Center (AMC) was a non-profit organization which aimed to promote the creating, performing, and enjoying new American music. It was founded in 1939 as a membership organization by composers Marion Bauer, Aaron Copland, Howard Hanson, Harrison Kerr, Otto Luening, and Quincy Porter. The San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM) is a private music conservatory in San Francisco, California. As of 2021, it had 480 students. History The San Francisco Conservatory of Music was founded in 1917 by Ada Clement and Lillian Hodghead as the Ada Clement Piano School. In 1923, the name was changed to the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. In 1956 the Conservatory moved from Sacramento Street to 1201 Ortega Street, the home of a former infant shelter. It resided there for fifty years, before moving to its next location at 50 Oak Street in 2006.
