Stan Woch
Stan Woch (born July 8, 1959) is an American comics artist who has worked on comic strips and comic books. Career After attending the Pratt Institute and The Kubert School, Stan Woch's early career included work as an assistant to Gray Morrow on the ''Barbara Cartland Romances'' and ''Buck Rogers'' comic strips. He then worked in the comic book industry as a penciller and inker. His first work for DC Comics was published in ''New Talent Showcase'' #1 (Jan. 1984). His credits as a penciller include the 1980s ''Airboy'' series for Eclipse Comics as well as DC Comics' ''Swamp Thing'' and ''World's Finest Comics''. He was one of the contributors to the ''DC Challenge'' limited series and he drew part of the " Fables & Reflections" collection of Neil Gaiman's '' The Sandman'' series. ''Showcase'' is a comic anthology series published by DC Comics. The general theme of the series was to feature new and minor characters as a way to gauge reader interest in them, without the difficulty and risk of featuring untested characters in their own ongoing titles. ''Showcase'' is regarded as the most successful of such tryout series, having been published continuously for more than 14 years, launching numerous popular titles, and maintaining a considerable readership of its own. The Jack Kirby Comics Industry Awards were a set of awards for achievement in comic books, presented from 1985-1987. Voted on by comic-book professionals, the Kirby awards were the first such awards since the Shazam Awards ceased in 1975. Robin (character)
Robin is the alias of several superheroes appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. The character was originally created by Bob Kane, Bill Finger, and Jerry Robinson, to serve as a junior counterpart and the sidekick to the superhero Batman. As a team, Batman and Robin have commonly been referred to as the ''Caped Crusaders'' and the ''Dynamic Duo''. Doom Patrol
Doom Patrol is a superhero team from DC Comics. The original Doom Patrol first appeared in ''My Greatest Adventure'' #80 (June 1963), and was created by writers Arnold Drake and Bob Haney, along with artist Bruno Premiani. Doom Patrol has appeared in different incarnations in multiple comics, and have been adapted to other media. ''Black Orchid'' is an American comic book written by Neil Gaiman with art by Dave McKean. It was published by DC Comics as a three-issue limited series from December 1988 to February 1989, and was later reprinted in trade paperback form. ''Black Orchid'' follows two girls, Flora and Suzy, who awaken in a greenhouse. Their journey to find out who they are leads them into contact with DC Universe figures like Batman and Swamp Thing, but also into conflict with criminal mastermind Lex Luthor, who seeks them for his own interests. Gaiman and McKean developed the series after meeting with Jenette Kahn, Dick Giordano, and Karen Berger in early 1987. ''DC Challenge'' was a 12-issue comic book limited series produced by DC Comics from November 1985 to October 1986, as a round robin experiment in narrative. The series' tagline was "Can You Solve It Before We Do?" Publication history The ''DC Challenge'' series was conceived during a rooftop party at the 1983 San Diego Comic-Con. The premise of the series was that each chapter would be written by a different author and illustrated by a different artist. No consultation between authors was permitted. ''World's Finest Comics'' was an American comic book series published by DC Comics from 1941 to 1986. The series was initially titled ''World's Best Comics'' for its first issue; issue #2 (Summer 1941) switched to the more familiar name. Michael E. Eclipse Comics was an American comic book publisher, one of several independent publishers during the 1980s and early 1990s.
