Stambridge United F.C.
Stambridge United F.C. was an English football club based in Stambridge, near Rochford in Essex. The club were members of Division Three of the Essex Olympian League and play at the Stambridge Memorial Ground. History The club was established in 1888 by members of Rankin's Cricket Club, and played in the local District league from 1896, winning the league in 1906-07 season. In 1988 the club joined the Essex Senior League. However, they withdrew at the end of the 1991–92 season and dropped into Division One of the Essex Intermediate League (later the Olympian League). After finishing bottom of Division One in 1997–98 they were relegated to Division Two, and were relegated again the following season after finishing second from bottom. In 2001 the club was renamed Stambridge United, and won Division Three in the first season under their new name, and were promoted to Division Two. Stambridge
Stambridge is a civil parish in the Rochford district in Essex, England. It is located north of the River Roach between Rochford and Paglesham. The parish includes the village of Great Stambridge. The name "Stambridge" means "stone bridge". The only bridge in the parish is now brick-built over the small stream that rises in Canewdon, flows under the road just south of the Royal Oak, and into the Roach near "Waldens". Parish Stambridge Parish formerly consisted of two parishes, Great Much, or Magna and Little or Parva. The parishes were merged on 1 April 1934. The centre of population in Great Stambridge has moved from around the church to the Royal Oak Inn area. The combined parish consists of approximately three square miles. Rochford
Rochford is a town in Essex, England, north of Southend-on-Sea, from London and from Chelmsford, the county town. At the 2011 census, the Civil parishes in England, civil parish, which includes the town and London Southend Airport, had a population of 8,471. History The town is the main settlement in the Rochford district, and takes its name from Rochefort, Old English for ‘Ford of the Hunting Dogs’. The Essex Olympian Football League is a football competition based in England, founded in the 1966–67 season. It has a total of six senior divisions and one under 21 division. The Premier Division sits at step 7 (or level 11) of the National League System and it is a feeder to Division One South of the Eastern Counties Football League. Between 1986 and 2005, the league was known as the Essex Intermediate League. The Essex Senior Football League is an English men's football league. It contains clubs from the Essex FA, Hertfordshire FA, London FA, Middlesex FA and the Amateur Football Alliance. It is a feeder league to Division One North of the Isthmian League and has a single division which sits at Step 5 (or Level 9) of the National League System. Founder members The Essex Senior League was formed in 1971 with nine founder members. Alan Bernard Brazil (born 15 June 1959) is a Scottish broadcaster and former football player, most notably for Ipswich Town, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and internationally for Scotland. He played as a forward before being forced to retire due to a recurring back injury.
