Spinkhill
Spinkhill is a small village in North East Derbyshire, England. It is approximately one mile south of the nearest town, Killamarsh, and half a mile north-east of Renishaw. It is home to the Church of the Immaculate Conception and its associated Catholic Primary School. Spinkhill is also home to Mount St Mary's College, a large private school. The village has strong historical links to the Roman Catholic Church via the Poles family. Spinkill has two commercial establishments, the Angel pub, saved from housing development by a community interest company (CIC). It was re opened in 2015 by an independent landlord and thrives as a gastro pub. Opposite the Angel is the former Post Office (closed over 20 years ago) which opened as a vintage tea/artisan coffee shop called the Chaffinch Room in 2017, which also serves food and sells gifts. Mount St Mary's College
Mount St Mary's College is an independent, co-educational, day and boarding school situated at Spinkhill, Derbyshire, England. It was founded in 1842 by the Society of Jesus (better known as the Jesuits), and has buildings designed by notable architects such as Joseph Hansom, Henry Clutter and Adrian Gilbert Scott. The school is a member of the Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference and the Catholic Independent Schools Conference. Its affiliated preparatory school is Barlborough Hall School, just 2.2 miles down the road. Immaculate Conception Church is a Roman Catholic Parish church in Spinkhill, Derbyshire, England. It was built in 1846 and designed by Joseph Hansom. It is situated on Spinkhill Lane opposite Immaculate Conception Catholic Primary School south of Mount St Mary's College in the village. It was founded by the Jesuits and is a Grade II listed building. History Foundation In the 1600s and 1700s, in Reformation England, the Society of Jesus attempted to found Catholic colleges and missions in and around Spinkhill. In 1633, a college and mission were founded in Spinkhill. In 1635, a school in Stanley, Derbyshire, was disbanded. In 1711, there was an recorded instance of a chapel and priest house being located in Spinkhill Hall. In 1791 and the 1830s, the chapel was rebuilt. Spinkhill Railway Station
Spinkhill railway station is a disused railway station in Spinkhill, Derbyshire, England. History The station was built by the Lancashire, Derbyshire and East Coast Railway on their Beighton Branch, within sight of the northern portal of Spinkhill Tunnel. Eckington is a village and civil parish in North East Derbyshire, England. It is 7 miles (11 km) northeast of Chesterfield and 9 miles (14 km) southeast of Sheffield city centre, on the border with South Yorkshire. It lies on the B6052 and B6056 roads close to the A6135 for Sheffield and Junction 30 of the M1. North East Derbyshire is a constituency created in 1885 represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2017 by Lee Rowley of the Conservative Party. Renishaw is a village in the district of North East Derbyshire in England. It is in the civil parish of Eckington, Derbyshire, Eckington. Renishaw lies on the A6135 road between the villages of Eckington, Derbyshire, Eckington and Barlborough.
