Spencer Carbery
Spencer Carbery (born November 9, 1981) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey left winger and is an assistant coach with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Playing career Born in Victoria, British Columbia, Carbery started his Junior Career with the Peninsula Panthers in the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League in the 1999/00 season. He was a key factor in the Club going to the League finals and put up 34 goals, 42 assists and 76 points to become the leading Rookie Scorer in the Panthers franchise history. The record stood until being broken by Payton Braun in the 2021/22 season. Carbery played junior hockey with the Cowichan Valley Capitals of the British Columbia Hockey League for the 2000–01 season, scoring a combined 58 points in goals and assists during regular season play. Winger (ice Hockey)
Winger, in the game of ice hockey, is a forward position of a player whose primary zone of play is along the outer playing areas. They typically flank the centre forward. Originally the name was given to forward players who went up and down the sides of the rink. Wingers generally have the least defensive responsibilities out of any position on the ice, however they are still tasked with defensive duties such as forechecking duties or covering the point in the defensive zone. Nowadays, there are different types of wingers in the game — out-and-out goal scorers, checkers who disrupt the opponents, and forwards who work along the boards and in the corners. ECHL
The ECHL (formerly the East Coast Hockey League) is a mid-level professional ice hockey league based in Shrewsbury, New Jersey, with teams scattered across the United States and Canada. It is a tier below the American Hockey League (AHL). The ECHL and the AHL are the only minor leagues recognized by the collective bargaining agreement between the National Hockey League (NHL) and the National Hockey League Players' Association, meaning any player signed to an entry-level NHL contract and designated for assignment must report to a club in either the ECHL or the AHL. Cail MacLean
Cail MacLean (born September 30, 1976) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player and is an assistant coach for the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League. Playing career MacLean was born in Middleton, Nova Scotia. He played his junior career with the Kingston Frontenacs of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). After being skipped over in the NHL Entry Draft, MacLean signed his first professional contract with the ECHL's Jacksonville Lizard Kings in 1997. He played two partial seasons with Jacksonville while also playing games in the American Hockey League (AHL) and the International Hockey League (IHL). 2011 Kelly Cup Playoffs
The 2011 Kelly Cup Playoffs of the ECHL started on April 4, 2011 following the end of the 2010–11 ECHL regular season. The playoff format remains unchanged from that of the 2010 postseason, with the exception of the changed conference names. 15 teams will qualify for the playoffs, being the top seven teams from the Western Conference and the top eight teams from the Eastern Conference. Reading Royals
The Reading Royals are a professional ice hockey team that currently plays in the ECHL. The team participates in the North Division of the ECHL's Eastern Conference. The Royals play their home games at the Santander Arena located in downtown Reading, Pennsylvania. Since 2001, the Royals have ranked among ECHL leaders in regular season attendance. Kalamazoo Wings
The Kalamazoo Wings, nicknamed the K-Wings, are a mid-level professional ice hockey team in Kalamazoo, Michigan. A member of the ECHL's Western Conference, Central Division, they play in the 5,113-seat Wings Event Center. Gordie Howe Hat Trick
A Gordie Howe hat trick is a variation on ice hockey's hat-trick. It is accomplished when a player collects a goal, an assist, and a fight in the same game. It is named after Hall of Famer Gordie Howe. The term was coined by a 1950s New York sportswriter, although Howe himself only accomplished the feat twice in his five-decade career. Howe's son Marty once remarked, "The Gordie Howe hat trick should really be a goal, an assist and a cross-check to the face. That might be more accurate." Alternate Captain
In ice hockey, the captain is the player designated by a team as the only person authorized to speak with the game officials regarding rule interpretations when the captain is on the ice. At most levels of play each team must designate one captain and a number of alternate captains (usually two or three) who speak to the officials when the captain is on the bench. Captains wear a "C" on their sweaters, while alternate captains wear an "A". The 2009–10 ECHL season was the List of ECHL seasons, 22nd season of the ECHL. Kelly Cup
The Patrick J. Kelly Cup goes to the playoff champion of the ECHL. The Kelly Cup has been awarded to teams since 1997. Prior to 1997, the playoff winner was awarded the Riley Cup, named after former American Hockey League president Jack Riley. The current cup is named after Patrick J. Kelly, the league's first commissioner. The cup is loaned to the winning team for one year and is returned at the start of the following year's playoffs, although the trophy itself has been replaced three times with the first two iterations preserved in the Hockey Hall of Fame.
