The Spain women's national basketball team ( es, Selección Española de Baloncesto Femenina) represents Spain in international women's basketball competition, and are regulated by the Spanish Basketball Federation, the governing body for basketball in Spain. Spain has one of the most successful women's national teams in the world, being the current World Cup bronze medallists. History Spain women's basketball team played their first official game in Malgrat de Mar, Barcelona, against Switzerland on 16 June 1963, losing 31–40. They won their first game against the same team two days later, 47–39. It would take six years to play another international friendly game, losing to Cuba 50–70 on 28 September 1969. Miguel Méndez (basketball)
Miguel Méndez (June 15, 1930 – May 31, 2013) was the pen name for Miguel Méndez Morales, a Mexican American author best known for his novel ''Peregrinos de Aztlán'' (''Pilgrims in Aztlán''). He was a leading figure in the field of Chicano literature. Biography Early life Méndez was born in the border town of Bisbee, Arizona, on 15 June 1930. His father, Francisco Méndez Cárdenas, was from a town called Bacoachi, in the state of Sonora, Mexico; his mother, María Morales Siqueiros, was from Arizpe, Sonora. During the nineteen thirties, the United States government urged Mexicans and Mexican-Americans to leave the United States and go to Mexico, even if they were American citizens, largely due to the Great Depression. Malgrat De Mar
Malgrat de Mar is a municipality in the ''comarca'' of the Maresme, in the province of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. It is situated on the Costa Brava between Santa Susanna and Blanes. The Switzerland women's national basketball team represents Switzerland in international women's basketball competitions. Switzerland was one of the five founding members of the Eurobasket in 1938. In 1953 it also took part in the World Cup's inaugural edition. However, the 1956 EuroBasket marked its last appearance in a final stage to date. The FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup, also known as the Basketball World Cup for Women or simply the FIBA Women's World Cup, is an international basketball tournament for women's national teams held quadrennially. It was created by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA). Its inaugural game was in 1953 in Chile, three years after the first men's World Championship.
