Southwestern Community College (SWCC) is an American public community college with its main campus in Creston, Iowa. It also has centers in Red Oak, Iowa, and Osceola, Iowa. In addition to an arts and sciences program, SWCC offers career and technical education (CTE) degrees and certificates. History Southwestern Community College (SWCC) began operation as part of the Iowa community college system in 1966, on a campus in northwest Creston, Iowa. SWCC is a two-year public institution offering programs for transfer to four-year colleges and universities; career and technical education programs to train students for the workforce; continuing education courses and programs; and industrial training classes. NJCAA Men's Division II Basketball Championship
The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Men's Division II Basketball Championships consists of sixteen teams playing over a five-day period (Wednesday through Saturday) in March to determine a National Champion. About the tournament Teams qualify for the tournament by first winning their district/region championships. The NJCAA Division II Men's Basketball Committee then seeds the top eight teams and uses a blind draw to place the remaining eight teams. When choosing the top eight seeds for the tournament, the three criteria that are considered by the committee are the national poll, the coaches' rankings, and each team's history. Since 1994, Danville Area Community College has hosted the tournament in the Mary Miller Gymnasium. Creston, Iowa
Creston is a city in and the county seat of Union County, Iowa. The population was 7,536 at the time of the 2020 Census. History Creston was originally settled in 1868 as a survey camp for the Burlington and Missouri Railroad. It was named for the fact that it was on the crest of the railroad line between the Missouri and Mississippi river basins. The area was developed largely for agriculture, with related industries accompanying it. Creston had a flour mill in the early decades of the 20th century. The town was officially established in 1869 and incorporated in 1871. Creston was chosen as the division point for the railroad, who built machine shops, a roundhouse, and a construction camp in the new town. Railroad employees, including African Americans, were recruited from Chicago and other major cities to work in Creston. The Enhanced Fujita scale (abbreviated as EF-Scale) rates tornado intensity based on the severity of the damage they cause. It is used in some countries, including the United States, Canada, China, and Mongolia. The Enhanced Fujita scale replaced the decommissioned Fujita scale that was introduced in 1971 by Ted Fujita.
