South Spur Rail Services was a Western Australian owned railway company that provides terminal operations and short haul rail services. In February 2006, it purchased Silverton Rail. In March 2007, it was sold to Coote Industrial, then in March 2010 to P&O Trans Australia, which in turn was acquired by Qube Holdings. History South Spur Rail Services was formed in January 1997 by James Wilson and his three brothers. It won a number of contracts for hauling infrastructure trains. In Perth, it also provided hook-and-pull services for Pacific National's SeaTrain service between Kewdale Freight Terminal and Fremantle Port. In the construction of the Perth to Mandurah railway, South Spur Rail Services diesels hauled track and sleepers over the Mount Henry Bridge as far as South Perth. The 2350 class were a class of diesel locomotive built by English Electric, Rocklea for Queensland Railways in 1973–1974. All were later sold to AN Tasrail. WAGR N Class (diesel)
The N class was a class of diesel locomotives built by Comeng, Bassendean for Westrail between 1977 and 1979. History Eleven were built all for use on the Western Australian narrow gauge network, primarily to haul mineral trains in the south east. Between July 1982 and June 1983, the first four members of the class had their vacuum brake equipment replaced with Westinghouse air brake systems, and were redesignated as the NA class. The R Class are diesel locomotives built by English Electric, Rocklea for the Western Australian Government Railways in 1968. They were followed by the revised RA class. Description The R class were a hood type general purpose diesel-electric locomotive. They were similar to the Queensland Railways 1300 class. All equipment, except traction motors, were interchangeable with the standard gauge K class. The bogies are an English Electric design with low weight transfer characteristics. They feature fully equalised primary spring gear, all traction motors in each bogie mounted with the nose-suspension facing inwards, traction thrust at near axle level and long pivot centres to reduce inter-bogie transfer. The K class are a class of diesel locomotives built by English Electric, Rocklea for the Western Australian Government Railways between 1966 and 1969. History Nine K class were delivered in 1966/67 to operate services on the Eastern Goldfields Railway from Perth to Kalgoorlie that was being converted to standard gauge. After initially working construction trains, in November 1966 they began working wheat trains from Merredin to Fremantle and once the full line was opened began working services to Kalgoorlie and Esperance. Victorian Railways C Class (diesel)
The C Class are a class of diesel locomotive built by Clyde Engineering, Rosewater for the Victorian Railways in 1977–1978. History The C class were purchased by the Victorian Railways for heavy freight haulage. They are a variant of the WAGR L class (itself an Australianised EMD SD40) fitted with safety cabs. Initially, the first four were placed on the North East line to haul services from Melbourne to Albury while the latter six were put on the broad gauge to haul services on the Serviceton line.
