Sommesnil () is a commune in the Seine-Maritime department in the Normandy region in northern France. Geography A very small farming village, in the Durdent valley of the Pays de Caux, situated some northeast of Le Havre, at the junction of the D105 and D106 roads. The Pays de Caux (, , literally ''Land of Caux'') is an area in Normandy occupying the greater part of the French ''département'' of Seine Maritime in Normandy. It is a chalk plateau to the north of the Seine Estuary and extending to the cliffs on the English Channel coast; its coastline is known as the Côte d'Albâtre. In the east, it borders on the Pays de Bray where the strata below the chalk show through. Cauchois is a notable dialect of the Norman language.
